Im sure all you will read about in regards to this quick little press conference the French President had with Obama today will be "Obama, Sarkozy push for UN sanctions on Iran "
But i think that is simply the big distraction of what this meeting was about.
I believe Nicolas Sarkozy said it all

"Regulate world capitalism". Isn't that an oxymoron?

We are so close to world wide socialism it is scary. With each crisis the longing for control grows.

I keep harkening back to the cycle of government.

Everything seems to be cyclical in the universe, including human history, whether we like it or not. Which means that we are once again heading toward dependence, then tyranny, then revolution. Doesn't mean it will be a violent revolution but eventually Americans (in this case) will revolt against having no freedom. I truly do hope we can get through the cycle and back to liberty before my grandchildren are old enough to understand what is happening. But that's probably asking too much.:(

It's tough to say. Things look really bad, and I'm willing to face it, but I'm still hopeful. I don't know if you ever heard of it, but there's an interesting book called The Fourth Turning (http://www.amazon.com/Fourth-Turning-William-Strauss/dp/0767900464) that suggests we have 80 year cycles. If this theory is true, then the revolution would be complete before 2030 (once our current leaders are all gone or retired).

Here's a site that talks more about it: http://www.bullnotbull.com/archive/fourth-turning.html

From the book:

Americans will also enter the Fourth Turning with a unique opportunity to achieve a new greatness as a people. Many despair that values that were new in the 1960s are today so entwined with social dysfunction and cultural decay that they can no longer lead anywhere positive. Through the current Unraveling era, that is probably true. But in the crucible of Crisis, that will change. As the old civic order gives way, Americans will have to craft a new one. This will require a values consensus and, to administer it, the empowerment of a strong new political regime…By the 2020’s, America could become a society that is good, by today’s standards and also one that works.

Thus might the next Fourth Turning end in apocalypse – or glory. The nation could be ruined, its democracy destroyed, and millions of people scattered or killed. Or America could enter a new golden age, triumphantly applying shared values to improve the human condition. The rhythms of history do not reveal the outcome of the coming Crisis; all they suggest is the timing and dimension.
