Ron Paul has been a faithful cosponsor of the National Language Act introduced by Congressman
Peter King (R-NY) from the moment he returned to Congress. Paul was a cosponsor in 1997
(H.R. 1005), 1999 (H.R. 1005), 2001 (H.R. 280), 2003 (H.R. 931), 2005 (H.R. 4408) and 2007 (H.R. 769).
Background: Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies during his medical career. Paul
was first elected to Congress in 1976, elected again in 1979 and elected again in 1996. Paul
left Congress to run for the U.S. Senate in 1984.and was the Libertarian Party nominee for president, 1988.
Paul marches to his own convictions and will vote for nothing that the Constitution does not
specifically empower Congress to do. Accordingly, in the 109th Congress (2006-2007), Paul
had the third lowest party unity score among House Republicans, voting with his party just 70% of the time.
Paul was one of 17 members of Congress who filed a lawsuit against President Clinton’s 1999 wa[r] in Kosovo.
In his own words: “No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity,
work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals,
clinics, schools, roads, and social services.” (Source: Ron Paul website, September 25, 2007).
