Nixon was a lot of things, but dumb wasn't one of them.

Check out David Spanier's book "Total Poker" sometime. He tells some great stories about Nixon and his poker prowess.

I find Nixon interesting. He was not of sterling character to be sure, but he was not at all stupid. UNWISE, yes.

He served in WWII. He got us out of Viet Nam after continuing it longer than he should have. He is known for a period of détente with the Soviet Union, and by the opening of diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. He did some good things domestically.

James MacGregor Burns observed of Nixon, "How can one evaluate such an idiosyncratic President, so brilliant and so morally lacking?"

Nixon was no angel and no demon. He was a man. An interesting man.
