All eyes on Thompson, which is great. I think he's going to flop. Ron should come out strong in this 2-hour debate.

This will be another MSM debate where there is no equality of time. I love the smaller lesser known debates the best. I think the one on PBS was the best conducted one yet.

CBS/AP) Tuesday's Republican debate in Dearborn is supposed to focus on Michigan and its troubled economy, but it's likely to be used by the nine candidates to push their own ideas for economic growth.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign already is criticizing Rudy Giuliani and his economic record while mayor of New York City. Giuliani's campaign is promoting his accomplishments as a tax-cutter and fiscal conservative.

The two-hour debate at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center will be the first for Fred Thompson, the actor and former Tennessee senator who got into the race last month, and the first since campaign finance records showed Texas Rep. Ron Paul collected nearly as much money in the third quarter as Arizona Sen. John McCain, boosting Paul's credibility.

Yes, they must have a reason for having this debate so early, so nobody will be able to watch it. I guess it's because they don't expect Fred to do so well, and they do expect Ron to win, like usual.

Just in time for Fred Thompson to enter (stage right), here's a handy cheat sheet for him, in case he's been too busy chillin' with George Allen, Liz Cheney, and Spencer Abraham to bone up on the gang he's sharing the spotlight with this afternoon:

Rudy Giuliani will be the guy who speaks too fast (though no longer too loose). Likes to talk about: 9/11, tax cuts, the Yankees (though maybe not so much today), Hillary Clinton. Doesn't like to talk about: abortion, gun control, lightning, James Dobson.

Full Coverage
VOTE 2008: Who is Your Match?Mitt Romney will be the guy with the million-dollar smile (and multi-million-dollar wallet). Likes to talk about: the Olympics, tax cuts, his hair, abortion (now). Doesn't like to talk about: abortion (circa 1994 and 2002), religion (his own), car trips with pets.

John McCain is the guy who looks like John McCain. Likes to talk about: drunken sailors, the "Straight Talk Express," "my friends." Doesn't like to talk about: immigration, fund-raising, polls, George W. Bush.

Mike Huckabee is the funny one -- laugh at his jokes. Ron Paul will say something about the Framers -- probably best to condemn it. Sam Brownback is the religious one -- nod approvingly when he speaks. Tom Tancredo will link immigration to a question about the nuclear non-proliferation -- agree with him, though not too vigorously. Duncan Hunter is also a candidate for president. No, we're serious, he is.

NOW this is what I"M talking about - A Michigan Publication with Ron Paul in the Headline - Come on MSM Media - your missing the BOAT!

The race for the Republican nomination for president is coming to the University of Michigan today.

At 4 p.m., GOP candidates will debate in Dearborn at a forum sponsored in part by the University's Dearborn campus.

Republican candidate Ron Paul, a Texas congressman, plans to come to Ann Arbor to deliver a speech from the steps of the Graduate Library at 7:30 p.m.

Rob Johnson, chair of the University's chapter of Students for Ron Paul for President, said his group only had a week to prepare for the visit, but they've been promoting the event since then.

Paul, a libertarian Republican, is a longshot to win the Republican nomination. But he has generated intense interest and support from across the political spectrum. He's lured supporters from the left with strong opposition to the war in Iraq and an activist foreign policy. He's lured supporters from the right with strident opposition to tax hikes, abortion rights and many federal government programs.

Abdullateef Muhiuddin, the University of Michigan at Dearborn student government president, said his group is helping to organize a live broadcast of pre- and post-debate activity on the Dearborn campus on radio station WWJ throughout the day.

The Dearborn student government also invited candidates to come talk to students before the debate.

Terry Gallagher, a spokesman for the University's Dearborn campus, said the University is working with the Michigan Republican Party and the city of Dearborn to work out the logistics of transportation, facilities and broadcasting.

Michigan will likely see more attention from the Republican presidential candidates over the next few months. Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed a bill last month to hold a state primary on Jan. 15, one of the earliest dates in the country.

Democrats, meanwhile, have vowed to stay away from Michigan. The Democratic National Committee has threatened to strip the state of its convention delegates because it broke party rules by scheduling its primary before Feb. 5.

Six of the Republican candidates spoke at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference last month. The last time the Democrats descended on Michigan en masse was in July, when nine candidates spoke at a forum in Detroit sponsored by the NAACP.

Chris Irvine, chair of the University's chapter of the College Republicans, said he thinks the eventual GOP nominee will have a better chance of winning Michigan in the general election because of the attention from the candidates.

"The Republicans do seem to be putting a lot of emphasis on Michigan," he said. "The economy is definitely a factor a lot of people in Michigan are going to be curious about."

But Sam Harper, the chair of the University's chapter of the College Democrats, said he isn't concerned about the debate drawing focus from the Democratic candidates.

He said the College Democrats have been working to promote the Democratic Party by hosting a student debate last week. He also mentioned that the College Democrats are in the process of planning an event - which would take place Nov. 5 on the Diag - to kick off the year-long countdown until the presidential election.

It is so frustrating... There is no mentioning of Ron Paul on the today's MSNBC discussions... Even more, all the guests/financial specialists give the impresion that everybody is for small government and low spending, and that there are just a few differences between them. MOST qualified: apparently Mitt Romney...

This is bs... RP is invisible

Chris Mathews is a moron and I'm sure his producer is in charge. I think we need to orginize ways to get these complete tools off the air. He just hit is 10th anniversy it would be awesome to see him gone 6 months later. MSNBC is developing this uneducated liberal following that is all over Keith Olbermann's crotch. It's ridiculous. Hopefully there is a poll we can vote on to embarass them again.
