Minnesota bill aims for indoor inflatable play insurance

Associated Press
Updated: 03/22/2010

A Minnesota lawmaker wants to protect kids from bumps and bruises — or worse — while bouncing at indoor inflatable play centers.

A bill sponsored by Democratic Sen. Katie Sieben of Newport gets a hearing in a Senate committee today.

It would require indoor inflatable play centers to get liability insurance. It would also require them to have a trained employee supervise all bouncing.

This would apply to indoor play centers with bouncy houses and other inflatable equipment — not equipment rented for private home parties or at carnivals and other festivals.

If it weren't for family, I would be out of this state so fast...

Well you are about to have no more play centers in Minnesota. That should be fun for the kids on a snowy cold January morning.

I think a law needs to be passed that all children are supervised while walking on sidewalks to make sure they don't step on a crack, and therefore break their mother's back.

Good idea! I'll be calling Sen. Katie Sieben.

Well to be honest I don't even know of any INDOOR inflatable play centers around here. I loved Leaps and Bounds when I was kid, but that was turned into a giant bookstore. Just another stupid ideas from THE Nanny State.

If this ever passes, I known Pawlenty will sign it too...

I would recommend tiered ball supervision certifications. Obviously supervising two bouncing balls requires more skill than one. (smiley intentionally omitted)

Stick with it guys. By the end of the year we will have a completely different political climate here.
We will have state sovereignty, or at least case law preserving township sovereignty.

it'll create jobs! Think of all the new supervisor jobs that'll be created by this bill!
