So the hubby and I recently learned we are expecting a new freedom fighter in the fall. This will be our first and we are very excited. :)

What's a good name for an anarcho-capitalist baby?

"Stossel Rothbard Eastwood Rockwell Owen, you get down from there!" has a nice ring to it...

Don't know if its a boy or a girl yet, so need ideas for both genders. :D

If you are into "different" names "Liberty" aka "Libby" is a good one. I like the Paul/Paula middle name too.

whatever you choose, write it down, say it out loud and look at the initials forwards and backwards. just sayin'

And Congrats!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I've always been partial to "Melissa" :D

It's foreign-friendly, Greek in origin, and means "honeybee."

I used to work with a "Liberty Justice," which I thought was a pretty awesome first/middle name combination, but it seems like it might get one teased at some point.

Lysander makes a neat middle name. It not only is a great reference to a great historical figure, but it's also a reference to a number of fairly badass things:

People
* Lysander, a general of ancient Sparta
* Lysander (Shakespeare), a character in the William Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night's Dream
* Lysander Hamlin, originator with John Austen Hamlin of Wizard Oil, a patent medicine
* Lysander Spooner, an American political activist and legal theorist of the 19th century
* Albert Lysander (priest), one of the early pioneers of the Swedish High Church movement
Military
* HMS Lysander, several ships of the British Royal Navy.
* Westland Lysander, a British aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s.
Places
* Lysander, New York, a town in the United States named for the Spartan general.

I'm sure there'll be a lot of other suggestions... just don't name the poor child Cowlesy!

Last name will actually be Owen. ;)
Don't name him Owen.
Having the same first name as last won't help anybody.
Second, make sure he isn't teased too much in school.
Third, Paul is the best name ever; and I am not talking about the Congressman.
Name him that.

We had enough trouble naming ours. We were so un original - we bought 2 copies of the little paperback books they sell in the grocery checkout, then each of us highlighted names we liked. For our first born, we only had one that we agreed on. Problem solved.

For #2 we didn't have any male crossover names, so we were in the hospital, looking at each other's lists, saying, "Well, I could live with that one."

Maybe you could auction off the naming rights as a political fundraiser - no?

My suggestions:

Freeman Frederic Owen

~Free Owen

phill4paul

Banana Fatz.

Reasons:

1) We need new blues with old soul injected into todays musical airwaves and w/ a name like that he/she couldn't fail.

2) It's trans gender. No need to worry about pre-printing B-day announcements or having to explain, until delivery, two name choices.

3) NO one else will have the same name.

4) The first letter is close to the beginning of the alphabet so he/she will not have to wait long until their name is called, w/ the added bonus that they would have to be the first.

Just my 2 cents.:D

Whatever you choose I am sure it will be lovely. Best wishes!

So have you made any arrangements for "Dr. No" to deliver his 4001st baby? :D

Oh, we never got a girl, but if we did we were going to name her Kamelyn. I just think that's a beautiful name, but no liberty tie-ins or whatever.

Yeah does the Lady Ninja have it in her power to talk Dr. No out of retirement to deliver her baby? That should be the real ? If she does Ron, Paul or Carol(if it is a gal) should most definitely be in the name.

Nolan is a good first or middle name, it means champion or something to that effect and invokes the name of David Nolan.

Another good one is Aydin, which means enlightened in Turkish.

MelissaWV

Technically, you can change a child's name legally (and it might be a good idea... you can cultivate two identities, as some people on the forum have previously said they had the good fortune to be able to do). You can pick whatever you'd like for now and, when the kid is old enough to really show a preference, you can change it at a convenient time (when they move or something, so there's no weirdness at school?).

When I have a son, he will be "Paul Andrew." I also love the name Daniel! There are some names that I like, but don't like the shortened versions of. I love the name James, but I don't like the name Jim. I also like Andrew, but don't like the name Andy. I like Nathan, but don't like the shortened version, "Nate."

For boys, I like:

Daniel
Trevor
Jacob

Girls:

Madison
Caroline (rhymes with "wine" not "in")
Holly
Emma

I used to love the name Meredith, until I had a bitchy roommate named Meredith. It's weird how you like a name, until you meet someone who's a complete jerk with that name. Maybe it's just me, I don't know. Josh likes the name "Tiffany," because he used to know a hot girl named Tiffany. The only Tiffany I've every known was a complete monster, so the name is sort of ruined in my mind.
