Last year David Brin wrote an article at the Libertarian Reform Caucus on the political spectrum. Here is the article: <http://www.reformthelp.org/marketing/positioning/models.php> (http://www.reformthelp.org/marketing/positioning/models.php). While I quibble with Brin on a few points, there is one part that stands out, and is truly insightful:
It's interesting to note that libertarians and anarchists frequently get along, even become good friends, although neither would last long in the company of Stalin, Marcos, or Hitler. Meanwhile, Panamanian "strongman" Manuel Noriega, characterized for years as a "right winger," later appeared to be best friends with Fidel Castro, while Stalin trusted Hitler as no one else, right up to the eve of invasion... and Saddam Hussein admired both.
...
Clearly, left and right mean very little, when it comes to whom you'll share a six pack with. Your attitude toward violent power is a much stronger predictor of your friends.
Here's my question: If Ron Paul managed the impossible, and won the nomination... Would the big government neocons support a Ron Paul candidacy, or would they jump ship and endorse Hilllary Clinton? I greatly fear that it would be the latter.
It's time for true conservatives to take back the Republican Party! Toss those damned neocon sociofascists out on their butts! Embarass them with quotes from Goldwater and Reagan! Hell, embarass them with quotes from Nixon and Ford! Let's make the neocons so irrelevant that the Dems can have their stinking votes!
