I do not like a candidate that promises regressive taxation, isolationist foreign policy in an increasingly global world, lies about the Fed Reserve system being a for profit business and talks about small government while leading the House in pork barrelling?

You can address each one of these points by searching for them-- for example, Paul's explanation that earmarking is more transparent, effective, accountable, and representative of his constituents' interests than letting Washington bureaucrats decide where to send his constituents' tax dollars. Or the way that isolationism is indeed dangerous, while in contrast, non-interventionism, which includes lots of trade and cultural exchange, is good. You can point out that the states can be as progressive in taxation as they want, and that if we just reduce the budget to 2000 levels, there will be no need for income tax.

You can also ask where they get the idea that the Federal Reserve is not for profit and profits nobody.

But I would question continuing to work so hard for one vote when there are so many voters out there who have never heard of Ron Paul and they need to be reached.

As for the regressive taxation, taxing the rich and feeding the poor won't work while the bankers control the money supply. We've has that plan on our books for - what - 60 years or so? ANd look what has happened - the rich are richer and the poor and poorer. That's even true for wealthy Democrats.

At the end of the day, Paul would make local communities responsible for deciding which form of taxation works best for them. That way the people living in poverty in the Appalachians won't be funding insurance for New Yorkers making $80,000 per year.

Earmarks arent pork. Pork is added before the budget passes. Earmarks are spending money that was already budgeted in. Earmarks don't affect spending levels. Pork does.

And he was hardly the leader, was he? CNN called the offices of 435 members of the House to ask whether they would make their lists public. Only 50 members' offices provided a list; of the others, 68 declined, 311 did not respond and six said they had no earmark requests. Use the menus below to find out what your representative said. The same article said that Obama was the first candidate to release them, but that's not true.

Here's a statement from his office: A spokesman says, "Reducing earmarks does not reduce government spending, and it does not prohibit spending upon those things that are earmarked."

I believe that Ron Paul would reduce spending and improve "the sunshine" in spending.

tell them that you wouldn't like that candidate very much either.

educate them on what a non-interventionalist foreign policy is, and how ron paul's stance on the fed has to do with fundamental keynesian vs. austrian economics and has nothing to do with whether the fed is a private business or not. the others i'm sure someone else can post things about... probably some stuff out there saying ron paul is the most conservative member in congress based on his voting record ??

Ask them if they like made-up wars to make the military industrial complex rich? Ask them if they like their own leaders staging fake attacks in their own country to create fake wars?

1. On the "pork-barreling" aka earmarks, note that he votes against every bill that he places earmarks on. Also, as was previously posted, he does this to attempt to return some portion of his constituents taxes back to them in the form of government programs.

2. On the Fed, the fed is a hybrid public/private company. It's private because it runs mostly internally in that its board is selected from boards of the major for-profit banks in the country. It's public because it's supposed to have oversight by the congress. But the funny thing with the oversight- it's like having a crack addict perform oversight on his dealer, who's giving him crack at interest that his kids will have to pay.... it's pretty damn ineffective.

3. Isolationist != Non-interventionist. You can find a simple definition on wikipedia for this. Or read Dr. Paul's most recent letter to the editor in the NH Union Leader. The biggest thing is Isolationist is about economic protectionism, non-interventionism is just not going to war unless you're attacked and quitting all the CIA black-ops games. Non-interventionist = Switzerland, Isolationist = North Korea.

4. Regressive taxing? What do they mean by this? I like the point that the year 2000 spending is equal to today's federal income MINUS the income tax. That means we could go back to year 2000 spending levels AND cut the income tax and still be OK. But really, if we cut needless departments, stop funding an empire, and allow the next generations to opt out of the welfare state, we will have the constitutionally sized government needed to survive on low taxes.

Thank you all so much, I've made many of the same points you have but he doesn't seem to understand it.

google video - money as debt - fair explanation of why paul is against the fed. you could also located the statements GREENSPAN has made that were against the fed.

isolationist/interventionalist - your friend denies the dictionary or english if they can't figure out this distinction. ask your friend if they think rp is so wrong on foreign policy, why is the world's leading expert on bin laden behind him? why is the world's leading expert on suicide terrorism behind him?
