Something to watch. Tsunami warnings throughout western South America. Earlier Japan got a 7.0. What's the deal with all the big quakes lately?

"Tell us...What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"

Jesus answered, "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains."

--Matthew 24:3-8

Guys it's all my fault, I farted last night and I think that was the last straw. Too much gas in the atmosphere, overnight global warming, and a very predictable 8.8 earthquake in Chille.

I should have stopped myself.

This thought went through my head last night, after seeing the quake trending on Twitter. I figure we'll hit the end, when we hit it. You won't me going around saying its here, because that's when I'll be wrong.

Well, these things tend to come in groups. There were other quakes around the time of the Haiti quake, too, but they didn't really do much in the way of damage. It makes sense that if there's a shift in one area, there will be shifts in others.

These quakes come in batches like this, and there have been some really awful times where they were far more common. I'm surprised we're not seeing a few more volcanoes growing active, too. Yellowstone is a little worrisome. I haven't checked on their quake situation lately (they've been having more shaking than usual over the past few months).

Dang.

Shouldn't have Al Gore focused his political propaganda on Man-made Global Quaking?

A guy could get rich with that...

Kind of makes the Haiti quake look like a pothole. Chile is basically the California of South America.

*GEOLOGICALLY*

Politically and economically, they are more like Texas. Not great, but better than most in the area.

This is kind of one of those things I was afraid of during all the "relief efforts" for Haiti. Even though the death toll here will probably be way lower, it's fairly cool at night... and will get downright cold long before the damage is repaired. It's not going to be a healthy situation. I know 54 degrees doesn't seem that cold, but at night, and potentially sleeping in tents or otherwise exposed, you need clothes/blankets bigtime. And this is summer. I hope charities aren't "tapped out" on providing the Haitian Government money. Certainly the Red Cross put all that "extra" money in "reserves," so I'm sure they'll gladly spend it on the effort in Chile :( (in reality, it's probably paying all kinds of salaries for paper pushers... but I try to be upbeat).

Of course, this happened in the events leading up to the 70 AD destruction of Jerusalem.
