Interesting article... thanks for posting.

Neither really. It's pretty awesome how they can take anything and make fun of it. TBH if they made a show about Ron Paul and all of us, I'd laugh my ass off.

Reading the article. I hope they make an episode after the Afghani thing.

Matt Stone & Trey Parker Are Not Your Political Allies (No Matter What You Believe)

I love how they indoctrinate the crow and tell them who they have to trust. Who the hell this HuffPost peole think they are? Like if they are holly or not biased...

But if you get past the title the article is good.

Out of those 2 choices they are more Democrat than Republican.
They aren't either though, really libertarian.
Of course they don't affliate with any political party or religion.
They make fun of everyone equally.

I love a good show tune, but Les Claypool wins.
Family Guy is just irreverent humor - which I love - but SP occasionally makes me think.

Anyone who hasn't seen the SP episode on airlines really ought to watch it. I think it's my favorite episode, because it really does embody a lot of what we believe. And it encapsulates the whole problem we're up against, too.

South Park is awesome! I've seen every episode. They are definitely libertarian. I wish they would put Ron Paul in an episode.

They could have an episode where the kids like Ron Paul, but are then ridiculed because there are "no black people in the Ron Paul movement." They could spend the whole episode trying to bully Token into becoming a supporter. Then, at the end, Ron Paul could show up and teach them all that the movement isn't about bullying people into believing what you believe... it's about people having the right to believe whatever they want. Even if it's bankrupting our country.

In an April 4, 2001 article in the Los Angeles Times. When asked to describe his politics, Parker said he was "a registered Libertarian." (Stone was less sure about his politics. He told the Los Angeles Times, "I don't think I'm registered to vote.")

I read an interview years ago with Parker and Stone where they were asked about political beliefs. They replied (and I paraphrase), "We can't stand the Republicans, but we fucking HATE the Democrats."

South Park doesn't take a side. They make fun of everyone's stupidity.

One of the best shows on TV IMO.

Trey Parker is a libertarian for sure but afaik Matt Stone has never really associated himself with a particular ideology, just been opposed to various ones:

"I hate conservatives, but I really (expletive) hate liberals."

Trey:
what we're sick of—and it's getting even worse—is: You either like michael moore or you wanna fuckin' go overseas and shoot iraqis. There can't be a middle ground. Basically, if you think michael moore's full of shit, then you are a super-christian right-wing whatever. And we're both just pretty middle-ground guys. We find just as many things to rip on on the left as we do on the right. People on the far left and the far right are the same exact person to us

being a self-described libertarian, and actually being libertarian, are two different things.

wasn't Obama quoted as being "Free Market" minded somewhere?:p

I love their show. I think they don't like both sides.

Besides being funny they do a good job exposing the BS of both sides and the false left/right paradigm.

They also do a good job exposing peoples biases. I have had good friends tell me they used to like the show but can't watch anymore because "South Park hates Christians" or "South Park hates black people". I told both of these guys that they didn't get it - but of course when I explained they didn't get it.

Plus everyone knows South Park really hates gingers:

Remember their episode attacking Rob Reiner and anti-smoking groups? Showing tobacco companies as good people, and anti-smoking groups as fascists was truly excellent.

Some things they are "left". Some things they are "right" and some other very important things they either dont mention or ridicule...

They are Comedy Central after all and if they have contracts its because someone filthy rich "up there" aprove their "message". Yes call me paranoied all you want...

The Tiger Woods-centered episode last week had me thinking. Ron Paul is the political equivalent of the two boys called "turd in the punch bowl", with all of the men trying to squash any dissension from the "sex addiction" representing the establishment, special interests, and media. Seems fitting, if off-putting.

I get the sense that they're somewhere between libertarian and centrist on the Nolan chart. That is to say, they're not principled libertarians or Constitutionalists, and they tend to ignore "taboo" issues like the Fed, but when it comes to commonly discussed issues, they lean closer to our positions than not. Whereas we tend to approach politics from a consistent foundation of moral/philosophical principles, it seems they tend to evaluate issues piecemeal, but they're intelligent enough to consistently arrive at pretty sane conclusions. If it weren't for the fact that "extreme" libertarianism is essentially the definition of moderation (http://fff.org/freedom/0890b.asp), I'd say they're "kind of like us, but much more moderate."
(The article I linked to is one of my favorites ever...)
