The California primary is Feb. 5. You have until the end of Januray to switch your registration.

Except that the NH primary allows independents to vote in either the Dem or Rep races.

They have never allowed independents to vote in the Republican primaries since 1996.

They have never allowed independents to vote in the Republican primaries since 1996.

That's right, the primary issue we are dealing with is that many of the states are moving up their primary date. With that comes early party affiliation deadlines.

Certainly one can speculate that part of the motivation for an early primary season is to prevent a grass roots campaign such as Dr. Paul's. It is important not to panic or feel under siege. Still, we do have to scramble to an extent to ensure Dr. Paul supporters all make the train in time.

Yeah this isn't news. They put a measure on the ballot several years ago that passed opening up the primary, but a judge overturned it.

Basically you've always needed to be registered R to vote for Republicans in Primaries in CA.

but if u voted dem in 2004...even though u were an independent...i believe u have to switch back....

we havent even won the necessary votes yet let alone getting people to go thru trouble of party registration...

these bastards will stop at nothing to derail us...

dirty tricks like this may force rp to have to go 3rd party....and then we still have diebold computer voting to fight

But even if he doesn't win the nomination, if 40% of the people who voted in the primary, voted for him, it will show he has a real chance of winning. That is why it is especially important to register and vote in your primary - to win Ron Paul the nomination and to show him there is real world support out there.

You are correct about having to switch back. By choosing a party to vote for in the NH primary, you officially enroll as a member of that party. Those who vote frequently in NH know the drill; you show up an independent, pick a party primary, vote in it, then on the way out of the voting place, you change your registration back to independent.
