I am sick to death of the media saying that Ron Paul supporters are young college students.

I am WAAAY past college student age, and I'm thinking there are a lot more out there like me.

I think the point is the college students are the ones who won obama the election and the fact the media is pointing out the large amount of college students supporing RP is to make the association to electability since most all other Republican candidates cater to the old fart in Miami beach

That's not how I'm reading it. I'm seeing "Ron Paul's ONLY supporters are the college brats. Any grown-up with responsibilities would NEVER vote for someone like Ron Paul. He's not a 'serious' candidate."

Clearly Ron gets support from all over the place.
The point is that it is surprising that a man Ron's age can get support from young people. And the fact that he can is very impressive. Who would look at the average teenager today and think they cared about anything besides the latest tabloid or Brad Pitt/Jolie drama?

This man made people like me, who used to actually read that shit, care about the Federal Reserve.

It is impressive.
That is the point.

A couple of the wiser ones I have noticed on the forums have posted ages that suprise me. I guess I also mistakenly imagine the movement being mostly to be much younger people. I mean my parents (48 and 45) both support Ron, and a lot of people their age I personally know do, but I guess I thought most on the interwebs are my age because my parents are pretty much computer illiterate. I think it made me feel better before too, because MOST people my age are maybe far dumber than you imagine. Some care about nothing more than reality shows and new cars, but I imagine every generation may have that kind of dupe percentage.I hope so. I'm 21, in 2 months 22, and have been a libertarian since 15, and for Paul since the 1st republican debate in the last race.

There are those who are young and there are those who are young at heart.

Don't feel frustrated that the media has been harping on the youth issue. Use it. If the strongest argument we have for Dr. Paul is that the GOP is going to keep scaring away college kids from the party if they don't re-evaluate their platform (nominate Ron Paul), then let's run with it (cause for the most part, it's true).

At the same time, we need more older folks planting seeds of liberty out there, because the literal 'old' guard tends to write off young people's opinions faster than King George III could rip up a colonial petition.

usually but not always, age is accompanied by the benefit of respect, and that's the one thing you 'old folks' have got a head start on.

I am 62 and my husband is 70. We both voted for Ron Paul in the primaries. What drew my attention to him is how the media kept pushing him aside, and ridiculing him. It made us think: hmmm this guy might not be part of the establishment. So we began digging deeper into his voting record, and then into his videos and articles.

We discovered that he was for a return to the Constitution (among other good stuff), and meant it because his voting record backed it up. He is a rare breed in Congress these days, and one of the very few we take seriously. The majority are a joke.

I think the reason he does not realize how many of us older folks support him is because, like he says, he speaks mostly at the colleges. But that does not take away of the fact that college students have done much to advance his message, and I appreciate them.

Added on edit: so what if most of Dr. Paul's supporters are college students? When I hear that, it gives me hope for the future of this country! If the younger generation GETS it, they are in a much better position to make a change than someone my age. I hope they will take the opportunity to follow in Dr. Paul's (very large) footsteps and run for political office, and I hope they do this in droves.

I think it is the "middlins," or people right now between 30 and 55 who are the most critical at the moment. That's not to say that the college crowd is not the most critical long-term, I agree with that, but the middlins will be the one who keep this ball rolling between the time that Ron Paul retires from public life, and when we pass the torch on to those who are 16-30 today.

I am not saying that because I happen to be 36, but rather because I recognize that the only possible thing that could "kill" this movement right now would be for there to arise a great silence in our ideals and principles for a decade or more between the time that Dr. Paul retires and the younger kids today are in a position to influence policy.

It's up to us middlins to keep the torch burning at full intensity until the tsunami-wave of current-youngsters grow into "important generation" territory.

Fifteen years from now, we will be inundated with political activists who cut their teeth on RP08. If we can keep the fire burning between now and then, then that will be an era of AMAZING change. If we can not, then I am saddened to say that many if not most will return to apathy, as has most of the former "youth-only" political movements without cross-generational appeal.

Therefore it is upon us in this thread, most of us reporting here being middlins, over the next decade and a half, to carry the torch and raise it high for all the world to see, so that today's "younguns" will be ab;e to step into a political climate which they can easily dominate by sheer numbers, strength of conviction, and outright passion.

I like this thread. It's positive and fun. Keep it going.
We should compile it and send it on somewhere where it will get some notice and exposure.
The OP is correct. While there is no question that the "kids" have made a tremendous contribution to this movement, we are often painted as ONLY that. It's one of the many tactics they use to marginalize us. They'd like to paint the picture that we're just too young to understand, and will learn better when we "grow up". Well, I can only speak for myself, but for me, the process of "growing up" is what brought me to this movement.

I would love for every RP supporter over 25 (and especially over 30) to record a very short (5 second) "I am 36, and I support Ron Paul" "I'm 52 and I support Ron Paul" string it together into an hour long video (split into 6 10 minute segments" and virilize it by cross-media posting FB Twitter Veoh etc etc) to counter the "kids-only" rhetoric.

They are the future of it. And though we do enjoy congratulating ourselves, a foundation is not more important than the building built upon it.

Why is it a bad thing? The arguments the news makes are stupid and they say it in a tone as if it's a mockery that 'young' people made it happen and they don't matter. Furthermore, I don't care what they think of me, their opinions lack value and credability in my perception. I don't watch T.V regularly.
