"Nearly 180 Department of Homeland Security weapons were lost -- somefalling into the hands of criminals -- after officers left them inrestrooms, vehicles and other public places, according to an inspectorgeneral report. The officers, with Customs and Border Patrol andImmigration and Customs Enforcement, 'did not always sufficientlysafeguard their firearms and, as a result, lost a significant numberof firearms' between fiscal year 2006 and fiscal year 2008, the reportsaid. In all, 243 firearms were lost in both agencies during thatperiod, according to the January report from Inspector General RichardSkinner. ... 74 percent, or 179 guns, were lost 'because officers didnot properly secure them,' the report said."

Huh. That's more than Virginia managed to straw-sale into the hands of New York City gang bangers. Michael Bloomberg can take that number and cram it.

I have a friend who recently left DHS. When I found out, he said "You know, big brother IS watching you... and he's incompetent, so you don't need to worry."

LOL. Ineffectual, inefficient and inept government strikes again.

Gun laws concerning carrying of firearms by federal officials obviously need to be strengthened.

Don't they teach these clowns the importance of securing a weapon?

Even the lowest ranking soldier/Marine knows you damned well better not lose your weapon, yet these overpaid fools leave them sitting in a car with the engine idling?

Unbelievable. Every one of them should have been fired immediately.

Not as scary as the GAO report that said we lost or misplaced over 100,000 weapons in Iraq. and that was in 2008, I haven't had the nerve to look up the numbers since then. This was on C-span , but not one news stroy about it.

My friend from Louisiana was talking to me about how soldiers were leaving their rifles in their hummers after Katrina. People would just take them and they'd get them replaced quickly.

LOL thats funny. Confiscate guns from legal owners and relieve your weapons to criminals. Perfect.
