The Associated Press is reporting that 85-year-old Gurley L. Martin of Owensboro, a retiree, has decided to enter Kentucky’s 2010 U.S. Senate race.
From the AP -
Gurley L. Martin said he is running “just because I can.”
The World War II veteran paid the $500 filing fee on Monday to run. He will likely face two well-financed Republicans, Secretary of State Trey Grayson and Bowling Green eye surgeon Rand Paul. Both have raised more than $1 million for their campaigns.
Hard to argue with that logic.
Though Paul and Grayson have the highest profiles among the Republicans who have announced they will seek the seat currently occupied by U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning, Martin becomes the first Republican to officially file for the office with the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office.
Martin has already set up a Web site, complete with a copy of his birth certificate to defend against any questions about his citizenship and a letter outlining the reasons he is running for office.
Let's play a game. Things Younger than Gurley Martin or things that were not around when he was born:
