We’ve always known that those in power aren’t going to sit silently by and watch their empire be stripped away from them by the “rabble”. Frankly, I’ve been surprised that so many incumbents have just walked away, whimpering about “spending more time with family”. But now we learn that a few of the usual suspects have decided to fight back and fight dirty. Via Big Government:
…the Clinton Empire is planning to strike back.
Big Government has learned that Clintonistas are plotting a “push/pull” strategy. They plan to identify 7-8 national figures active in the tea party movement and engage in deep opposition research on them. If possible, they will identify one or two they can perhaps ‘turn’, either with money or threats, to create a mole in the movement. The others will be subjected to a full-on smear campaign. (Has MSNBC already been notified?)
Big Government has also learned that James Carville will head up the effort.
I was wondering when Terry Lenzner and his Investigative Group International ["IGI"] would be called out of retirement to stomp a few cats and threaten members of the opposition. Let’s take a moment to recall the “good old days” of the Clinton administration. From Dick Morris in the New York Post 10/20/98:
“Beginning as early as 1990, Clinton surrounded himself with detectives and negative-research specialists who collectively have become a kind of secret police force to protect his interests. Consider the public evidence of their possible activities: Kathleen Willey reports her cat was stolen and her tires were slashed on her car. Shortly thereafter, while jogging in the park, a man ran up alongside her, asked about her cat – calling it by name. He said that if she wasn’t careful, her children would be next. Former Miss America Elizabeth Ward Gracen says she was offered acting jobs through the Hollywood-connected Clinton operative Mickey Kantor in return for denying a sexual encounter with Clinton when she was Miss Arkansas. She also reports that her hotel room was ransacked – and $2,000 left untouched – in what she suspects was an effort to find incriminating tapes. Linda Tripp’s confidential personnel file winds up in The New Yorker magazine in an attempt to discredit her. Dolly Kyle Browning, who claims a former longtime relationship with Clinton, relates the details of a long attempt to intimidate her and shut her up. The Washington Post reports in 1992 that the Clinton presidential campaign maintained a staff of detectives to dig up dirt on women to cow them into silence. In a telephone conversation that same year, Betsy Wright, head of the Bimbo Patrol told me much the same thing…. The Washington Post reports detectives in Clinton’s employ have spent months digging up dirt on Monica Lewinsky to discredit her..”
