Shortage of food, other basic goods on Rota (http://www.saipantribune.com/newsstory.aspx?newsID=97210&cat=1)

Rota is now experiencing shortage of food and other basic goods as a result of rough waters since last year that makes it impossible for the lone shipping vessel to enter the island's port to discharge its cargo. The last shipment of goods to Rota was on Dec. 21, 2009.

Rota does not have a glass breakwater to allow ships to enter the port during all weather conditions.

Saipan Shipping Co. Inc. marketing manager Alex Sablan said yesterday that the company has been trying to enter the Rota port every weekend since late December but the sea and weather conditions have been preventing the vessel from making it to the port.

No matter where you are, it always pays to keep a couple months of supplies. When logistics fails, the goobermint will not always be there to bail you out.
