Republican politician Mitt Romney was physically threatened by a violent passenger on an Air Canada flight leaving Vancouver this morning.

Mr. Romney, who has been in Vancouver since Friday for the Olympic Winter Games, did not respond to the attack. Instead, he allowed the airline crew to deal with the incident, according to his spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.

Mr. Romney, 62, and his wife, Ann, were sitting in Row 15 of the economy section of the Embrarer 190 airplane, waiting for the plane to take off when the incident happened.

The man sitting in front of Mr. Romney’s wife dropped his seat back and when Mr. Romney asked him to move it upright for takeoff, the man became “physically violent.” Another report said that the man tried to strike Mr. Romney.

“Gov. Romney did not retaliate,” said Mr. Fehrnstrom.

Mr. Romney was not injured. The pilot returned to the gate and the passenger and his bags were removed by the RCMP.

There are only 9 seats in the AC config of the E190. If this trip was a last minute decision then it's quite possible that there were no first class seats available to purchase.

It's also part of being a politician and trying to be "one of the people". I had a friend who was on a flight with Obama a few years ago. He was flying economy as well.

BOSTON - A rap singer says former Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney first touched him -- and not the other way around -- during a confrontation aboard an Air Canada flight that was preparing to take off from Vancouver, British Columbia.

Sky Blu, whose given name is Skyler Gordy, says in a video posted Friday on TMZ.com that he was trying to go to sleep when he leaned his seat back in the coach section of the Vancouver-to-Los Angeles flight Monday. He says Romney loudly told him several times to straighten it, as is required during takeoff under commercial flight regulations.

Then, he says, Romney reached forward and grabbed his shoulder.

"I just react -- boom -- get off me, you know," Gordy says in the video, taking a swing through the air as he speaks. "And I didn't take it any further than that. I just wanted the man not to touch me; that's it."

Gordy says that Romney's wife, Ann, screamed and that the plane returned to the gate before two police officers escorted him off. After being detained briefly, he was allowed to buy a ticket for another flight.

News broke earlier in the week that former Republican presidential candidate and Michigan native Mitt Romney had gotten into an altercation with an unidentified passenger on a flight Monday.

MTV.com reported Friday that Sky Blu (born Skyler Gordy), of the electro-rap duo LMFAO, has revealed that he was that passenger.
Gordy's version of events is that he was attempting to sleep on the flight and put his seat back when Romney yelled at him several times and asked him to put his seat up. When the former Massachusetts governor put his hand on Blu's shoulder, the rapper reacted by knocking his hand away.
Gordy told a flight attendant he was protecting himself and added, "I might have thrown a few cuss words in there."
He and his LMFAO partner, Red Foo (born Stefan Gordy), the nephew and son respectively of Motown founder Berry Gordy, were escorted off the plane by air marshals.

Romney declined to press charges. I wonder why Mitt?
