Canada has a vast amount of world oil reserves (2nd only to Saudi Arabia). It is starting to come online this year with higher yield to follow... This suppresses the prices of oil and affects OPEC cartel operations with out their consent. Cartels like control of their prices and are continuously interested in attacking competition and building toward full monopoly of their resource...This is why oil sand oil is "dirty" and unacceptable... not the Eco religious reason.
The Environmentalist movement is nothing more than a fake revolutionary front; a means to spur political pressure to enact protectionist regulations to suppress oil supply and its main substitutes ( coal and nuclear) boosting demand. Who would be interested in higher prices? Who benefits?
Murray Rothbard, in his book, Americas Great Depression, mentions similar actions being used in the 1929 depression. "Conservation" in that time which was the excuse to restrict oil production in order to boost prices, in some instances at the end of a National Guardsman's Bayonet ... This time its much better funded.
Control the world energy supply and you can prevent any rising economic threat (China, India...etc.)
