It's sad when a cartoon understands inflation better than the people that hold office and teach economics.

worth the repost for those who haven't seen it. Show it to your kids and they will get it more than our politicians do

You know that is funny. I remember seeing that episode years ago and it left an imprint in my mind of inflation.

Just bump old threads instead of always creating new ones.

There's only one problem with that particular episode. While it is correct that 'funny money' will crash an economy, in Duckberg, someone would have gotten the bright idea to collect up all the duplicated COINS and melt them down to build something (a bridge, for example). A metal coin has at least some OTHER intrinsic value as far as production is concerned. As far as I can tell, FRNs cannot even be reprocessed into clothing to get rid of them. Now, hyperinflation would still take place, but not quite at the rate of a totally fiat currency.

Check out the comic stickied in the economics forum. Visual aids are useful when living here in idiocracy. I mean America.

I remember this episode! I loved Duck Tales. Watched it every day.

I wonder how many libertarians my age also watched this show? Maybe it actually had some impact. Because now that I think about it, I would say my earliest appreciation for the idea of wealth came from this show.

Honestly, that episode is probably the reason why I grasped austrian theory on inflation so well. The first time I heard someone talk about 'sound money', that is what I thought of. I remember watching it one day as a kid and thinking 'huh, so many isn't really worth anything if there's too much of it'. I was in kindergarten at the time so they got me very young.

I still wonder if that was an intentional educational experience on the part of the writers or if they just thought it'd make a good plot.
