I am sure all of you are familiar with the case of the missionaries caught taking children out of Haiti.
The US govt takes a hands-off attitude. no consideration for the aid.
but if they were military/military contractors accused or even convicted of any crime they could stay at the US embassy. constant intervention, be it Japan, Korea or the Philippines.
