The Department of Homeland Security received a nearly 3 percent boost in discretionary funding, to $43.6 billion, in President Obama's 2011 budget request.

The money includes $200 million to pay state and local costs of securing terrorism-related trials; a 10 percent increase, to $950 million, for Federal Air Marshals; and $734 million to deploy up to 1,000 whole-body-imaging scanners at airports that use radio or X-rays to detect objects hidden beneath clothing.

Just say No to these scanners.

Saw and article that body scans are being made mandatory in Britain.

I'm not sure why this bothers people so much. It's not like they're x-ray glasses that show people exactly what you look like naked. The images they see are very blurry and leaves the person unidentifiable.

You're saying you can't tell me how long that guy's penis is?

Blurry blue image that guy's ass.

If you think they are blurry enough then you can choose to go through them and take your kids through them when a private company makes the decision to enforce it rather than the government who has ultimate decree.

It's the principle. It also creates child porn.

Well, I agree that it shouldn't be enforced by the government. And I don't think minors should have to go through them.

But it doesn't bother me personally. I guess I'm just not that shy. ;)

Well it bothers us because of the government decree, not walking through them. I don't care if some random person sees me naked, I care that the government is forcing me to do so just to get on a commercial airplane.

In fact, if there was a hot girl running the machine I'd be more than glad to walk through.

I agree. It's really not much worse than what the TSA already does.

Buuut but I wanna go to KY for spring break :(

I'm probably just going to sponsor someone else instead, cause plane tix are expensive and I don't want to fly. I used to love flying, now I hate it because of all the crap you have to go through and I hate having to sneak my medicine through. Talk about paranoia

So all you pro-scanner people must be looking forward to the rectal bomber, that way everyone can have a colonoscopy before boarding.

I don't like planes much either, the thought of a death from plunging from the sky isn't way up high on my list

Which thoughts of death are high on your list? :p

Death by Unga Bunga scares the hell out of me.

A preferable way to die would be painless, so maybe a carefully measured overdose on an opiate would be ok.

A preferable way to die would be painless...

Then "death from plunging from the sky" should be high on your list. Painless.

I've thought about it... but the shitting all over yourself right before you crash would probably be unpleasant.

One of the pilots, can't remember which one (I think it was Dick Scobee) recited the Lord's Prayer during the fall into the ocean with the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. He did not shit his pants. There were women heard screaming in the background, so they may have shitted their pants.

do you think he was praying so that he wouldn't shit his pants?
or does praying prevent bowl movement, if so, we can circumvent the shitting part and enjoy the quick death.

I guess it depends on your belief system.

Intestinal fortitude prevents one from shitting their pants.
Faith builds such fortitude.

Shitting one's pants during a hanging however is forgiven I suppose.

I'm not really pro-scanner. But if this is a faster/more efficient way to detect who is carrying explosives and who isn't then I'm not going to worry about it.

Honestly if some person I don't know sees me naked I could really care less. Even if the picture was crystal clear - and it isn't.

I can understand that, Terrell, and that's your opinion.

If it were the airlines themselves inflicting this type of intrusion I would be for it. Only because that is their right as the owner of the airlines. You know, like the owner of an establishment choosing whether his/her business will be smoking/ non-smoking.

But the .gov doesn't need to make this their priority, and they certainly don't need to be giving more of my money away to do it.

this is how the government loots us.
they come up with crap like this, force us to pay for it and make sure their brother-in-law gets the deal and the kick backs come to them.

one failed shoe bomber and we all take off our shoes
one failed underwear bomber and we all reveal our privates

hundreds of thousands of drunk drivers on the roads every single day and we still get upset at drunk driving check points saying they are an assault on our freedoms

Americans have fallen for this false sense of security hook, line, and sinker

These scanners make me feel so safe that I will give up my privacy and liberty of my own body

I bet you even with scanners implemented, someone will slip through and create another scare and make some more asinine search/device.

And you think body scanners are needed to prevent that? Do you realize the FBI knew who this bomber was before he was allowed on the plane without a passport? Wake up people!

And you don't care if they look are your daughter's anatomy either?

The bottom line is this. The attack clearly could have been prevented just using basic intelligence. The kid's father had turned him in for crying out loud!. Even if you don't think this was an "inside job", if you have any common sense you know this was a preventable attack. We should not give up more civil liberties when the government is not being held accountable for stupidity. We do not have to turn our back on our God given and constitutionally protect rights to fight terrorism.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Are naked body scanners really the last line for people?

IMO the line was crossed when the government pretty much took over airports and mandated how airports have to run their security. That should be entirely the airlines decision.

I would rather take my chances flying. I've never ridden greyhound or amtrak particularly long distance but I've heard negative stories.
