Direct quote on one of his videos "what I'd like to see is a foreign policy that's a little more like Ronald Reagan's foreign policy." Ronald Reagan is the modern day author of borrow and spend military madness. Definitely not libertarian. Ronald Reagan was not a libertarian. He ushered in the biggest expansion of government in history. Take a look at all the government spending and debt curves. They all go crazy right around 1980, when Regan was elected.

Until Chuck Devore comes out as Ron Paul has stated that we should disengage from all foreign military conflicts, that we should attempt to understand what's driving terrorism, that we should stop all taxpayer stolen foreign aid, I'm merely going to laugh at Chuck Devore.

I'd also like to see Chuck Devore come out in favor of the elimination of the income tax, something I'm guessing he won't do because he's in favor of big government. He sounds distinctly like Jolly John McCain in his view that the "military can be more efficient." I don't care whether the military is efficient of not. I just want it cut 90% down to where it properly protects our borders and nothing more.

Politicians like to sprinkle Ronald Reagan any chance they get, even Ron Paul's campaign did it. I think you're really flying off the cuff just by that single quote. The following was taken from the "Defense Policy" section on this issues page...

While a strong supporter of a robust and modern volunteer military, Chuck has been a consistent skeptic of direct military intervention since the 1980s, preferring instead to encourage those who want freedom and democracy overseas with more indirect methods, if possible. Chuck knows that we neither have enough people or treasure to be a global policeman for decades.

Regarding our current conflicts, we must define and then achieve victory. If we are not prepared to defeat our enemies, then we should not sacrifice our men and women in uniform to a lost cause.

I thought some people would have learned by now that sometimes you have to play politics to win. Guess not.

Should this forum be a clearing house for "Liberty" candidates? Maybe, maybe not. There is another group doing that:

http://www.liberty-candidates.org/

To be fair, we could create new sub-forums for each of the following candidates. Experience has taught that endorsing candidates can create some controversies though ;):

Interestingly, Chuck DeVore is nowhere to be found on that list.

It's not really a comprehensive list of "liberty" candidates. It's a comprehensive list of candidates who have voluntarily gone through the vetting process of that website's group, which includes filling out a questionnaire, and then deemed "liberty" candidates on that basis.

Devore uses all the language of the neocon, like "I support Israel's right to defend itself" without actually coming out and promoting aggressive intervention. I will give him one thing. He clearly doesn't support attacking Iran until Iran "fires one missile at Israel." But only heavy duty maniacs like Sarah Paliln support preemptive attacks on Iran. So Chuck Devore isn't Sarah Palin. Hurray.

Sorry, I'm a big fan of speaking the truth. Regardless of the political costs there has to be a penalty for doing things like bringing the interests of a foreign country up in a U.S. Senate campaign. Israel's interests shouldn't even be part of the equation. To bring it up is treasonous, and that's what Devore is doing.

Again, I'll concede that he is more thoughtful about the subject than a lot of other Republicans around. Maybe he shows enough thoughtfulness on the subject to make the right decision when he's in office. I don't know.

However, I say to hell with political reality. Speak the truth. I want a candidate who takes people to task when they start talking about the interests of another country during a U.S. Senate campaign. Break the viscous cycle of the prisoner's dilemma in which we're all forced to lie about foreign policy only because every body does it. The only way to break it is to start speaking the truth.

I don't know anything about this guy so I went to his web site, I read his stand on issues and thought "ok, so far ,so good" and then I read that he is a Lincoln Fellow at the Claremont Institute so I went there only to have my eyes start bleeding!

The Claremont Institute's 30th Anniversary Dinner Featuring Dick Cheney - It's On!
Updated March 9—The Claremont Institute is proud to welcome Vice President Dick Cheney as keynote speaker at a dinner in celebration of our 30th Anniversary. It will be held on Saturday evening, March 27, 2010, at the Millennium Biltmore in Los Angeles, California. Vice President Cheney is to be awarded the Claremont Institute's Statesmanship Award.

He might be better than the rest that he's running against and if so then I wish him luck however that was a red flag to me, not someone I'd donate to.

Chuck is more thoughtful about it than your average parrot, and often talks about non-interventionist foreign policy. His opponent Carly Fiorina managed to say "Israel" four times in the first ten seconds of that debate, and probably said it 14 times in about 2 minutes. It's hard to tell which country she is running for election in.
