From Paul Burka, respected political commentator in the state of Texas, in a blog entry Thursday:

I received this information about polls that were taken in two House districts, HD 3 (Homer) and HD 47 (Bolton). The first poll is from HD 3. The pollster was Chris Wilson. Fair warning: Both polls were sent to me by a source close to the Perry campaign:

Perry 47
KBH 26
Medina 13
Undecided 14

In HD 47 (Mike Baselice poll):
Perry 45
KBH 26
Medina 19
Undecided 9

The obvious thing that jumps out is Medina’s number, in Travis County yet. Obviously she is taking more votes from Hutchison than from Perry.

13% and 19% are awesome! Does anyone know anything about these districts and the way they usually vote, demographics, etc.?

If this is representative of the state before tonight's debate, I can't wait to see the next poll!

I'm guessing shes taking away from Kay the people who viewed Kay as the anti-Perry vote.

Well it says something. I have to be honest, Medina sounds great but Perry looks like a winner. I hope she pulls it off, I just hope she cant beat the Democrat she runs against.

I believe Perry will win, but maybe she'll get him next time. Frankly any state that could vote in a loser, liar, cheater, Bilderberg playboy, John Edwards want to be maggot like Perry deserves its' fate. It takes less than 15 seconds to size him up. The guy is an intellectually challenged crook; much like the Bush's that held the seat before him.

At this point it seems almost a foregone conclusion that there will be a runoff. She can beat KBH and the longer she's in the running the better she'll do. I think she has a very good chance of winning.

It wouldn't hurt if she'd said no to taxing home sales, or NEW homes only. (don't know if it already is new only)

I live here. I know the climate. I have given to the Medina campaign. I honestly dont think she has a shot in hell.

But that is the thing about Texas. It ain't about winning. Its about getting enough support and name recognition that you can win the next time.

House District 47 encompasses part of the capital city Austin.

There is more information about it at this link:
http://www.texastribune.org/directory/districts/tx-house/47/ (http://www.texastribune.org/directory/districts/tx-house/47/)

It is currently represented by State Representative Valinda Bolton, a Democrat, who has held the seat since 2006. BTW, Michael Badnarik ran for this seat in 2000 and received 17% of the vote.

House district 3 is near the upper NE corner of Texas:

So uhh isn't Hutchison leaving the Senate or what? I could've sworn I heard her say she promised to retire or something in the last debate. May be Medina can run for Senate if she fails in this race.

This was mentioned last night, but a good point was made: Medina has been campaigning for about a year now, travelling all over Texas, which has to be taxing on her and her family. I'm not sure she would want to commit to, essentially, going directly from campaigning for Governor to campaigning for Senate and dedicating herself to the grind for another full year.

So you support the Democratic candidate for Governor of Texas? Which democratic candidate is running a on RP-friendly platform? Someone that has not yet been mentioned on this forum?

But a special election would be called, like in Massachusetts, and would likely be held within 90 days.
