However, the amendment passed 60-40. I'm thinking something is not right if all 40 voted against it...

Sounds like an orwellin' way of saying tax raises and more loopholes.

I would rather Paygo be in place. That way, the budget will be more balanced. More importantly, people will realize that all of this spending is going on when their taxes go way up and they will all get pissed, not just one party or the other. When that happens, spending cuts will happen.

The PayGo was attached to the debt ceiling raise in order to draw some Republican support. The gimmick failed.

Ya think? They have the votes for it right now anyway.

Yeah - I figured the problem was the 200% "debt ceiling", but I don't get how it passed 60-40... Brown has not been sworn in yet and his seat should be vacant right now. If this could pass right now, so should health care.

Brown not in yet, but they had their benchwarmer in there, the one that was
appointed, I believe, to fill in after Teddy died until the election could be held - Paul Kirk.

I oppose increasing the debt ceiling, but I think paygo is for the best. If we're spending the money, we need to be raising the money to pay for the expenditures.

It's sad that the GOP can unite on this but wouldn't even delay a vote on Bernake even though there was some dem support. :( No surprise though.
