"The best she can hope for is to kick the thing into a runoff one that she will not be a part of," says Wayne Hamilton, a Republican consultant and former executive director of the Texas GOP. "She might as well get a hammer and hit her thumb and get it over with."

Wow, it's good to see that GOP bigwigs support open and spirited debate!

With no crowd in the room this time, he'll play to the cameras instead of the cheap seats. The idea is to be Mr. Positive and to try to deflect attacks on himself as attacks on the state; the idea is that anyone criticizing him is talking trash about Texas.

She absolutely has to attack this conflating the Governor with the people of the State of Texas.

How portentous to claim responsibility for, and to claim in essence to be the very greatness, the very image of the Republic itself. To take singular credit for the collective toil, the blood, sweat and tears of the many people living real lives outside of the governor's mansion and off Congress Avenue, what a sham!

(anyway, something like that.)

She should call him out. Say "Rick, it looks like you think you are entitled to run the state for the rest of your life and that any criticism of you is treason against the state. I should call you Kim Jong-Perry."
