This reminds me of a business idea I had:

A transportation service that entails the customer being dragged into a fan by masked assailants, tied up, gagged, and even roughed up a little until they reach the destination and you're tossed out on the road.
That's a pretty stupid idea and it would never happen. But if the government subsidized it so you only paid $0.01 per mile for the service it's suddenly not such a bad idea.

I didn't find that Pickens came across as an elitist at all, but then again I did watch the full show in context.

so how do i compete with the price of going off the grid when oil is subsudized by the blood and treasure of my country and the "skeptics", who offer few if any answers beside the status quo, restrict the potential economies of scale so that potential investors are misled by thier risk assesment and they ,and others are so ingrained/ invdested in the status quo, inadvertantly insure price "never comes down"?
