New York City, NY, United States (AHN) - A United Nations report on climate change contains what officials are now calling an erroneous claim that Himalayan glaciers could disappear by 2035.

The claim was included in the 2007 report by the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which is often cited as a call to action to curb automobile and industrial emissions.

The New York Times reports that the IPCC relied on news reports that misquoted a scientific paper that said the glaciers could be gone by 2350, not 2035.

The error adds to growing evidence that several major claims made in the IPCC report were not vetted through scientific review processes.
