I recently joined my college's chapter of 'Young Republicans' (there was no Libertarians club) and we're going to have a movie night in a few weeks and I was wondering what movies or documentaries you guys would suggest. I'm thinking about suggesting "Aaron Russo's Freedom to Fascism." I was wondering if you guys had any other movies in mind that have a conservative or libertarian theme that you would suggest.

The Fountainhead... I was too lazy to read the book for school so I just watched the movie. Hah.

I think we have other threads on this with long lists already.

For fiction, V for Vendetta is one that goes over really well with the college crowd. My personal recommendation, which might not be as popular, is The Lives of Others (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lives_of_Others).

I also really liked the John Adams miniseries on HBO. But that wouldn't fit a movie night so well.

Could you please link me to those other threads.

Well its a documentary that doesn't focus too much on entertainment value, its strictly informative, but I enjoyed it.

Money, Banking, and The Federal Reserve. (http://www.youtube.com/user/misesmedia#p/u/0/iYZM58dulPE)

And it covers an important subject, it might wake up a few souls and push them more in a libertarian direction.

No. Not funny.

Braveheart, 1984 and Red Dawn

I would cross out 1984. Chances are the entire audience has already read the book.

Instead of wasting time watching movies, how about going here:

http://mises.org/media.aspx?action=category&ID=186

And download the most brilliant (audio) books written this side of the Persian Empire (written by Mises, Rothbard etc) and absorb, digest and internalize every damn word?

Just a thought

You are proposing audio books for movie night?!!

What next, down is up, and up is down?

What's wrong with audio book night eh? Does it have to be movies or hollywood propaganda? Or better, how about jettisoning the fiction-movie medium outright? Or how about pursading the "young Republicans" that there is not a thing conservative about bread-from-stone Friedmanite supply side monetary theory that so many "conservatives" tightly cling to?

Braveheart, 1984 and Red Dawn

1984 is one of the worst movies ever made. Got 10 min into it before turning it off.

Red Dawn and Braveheard = double win

Interesting, thanks for that. I've never seen the documentary, but was thinking of it. Maybe I'll pass. I think I already got a darned good idea of the fear mongering that takes place.
