While the healthcare negotiations are dominating the news cycle, the Senate will vote this week on what may be one of the biggest threats to taxpayers. Senators Kent Conrad (D-ND) and Judd Gregg (R-NH) have put forth a proposal to create a bipartisan tax and spending "reform" commission. This may sound good on paper, but, because of the way the commission is structured, it will lead to a guaranteed tax increase.

The big spenders on the Hill are looking for a way to cover their tracks in a bipartisan fashion. They already did it once, in 1990, when they were able to cut a bipartisan deal that was supposed to cut spending by two dollars for every one dollar in tax increases. Instead, however, taxpayers were stuck with higher taxes AND higher spending. Now the tax and spenders are looking to recreate the Andrews Air Force Base debacle from 1990.

It will be up to you to tell your Senators that you will not stand for any commission that puts tax increases on the table.

We have seen bailout after bailout, failed "stimulus" spending packages and massive budget increases - it is clear that the Federal government does not have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.

Tell your senators to reject the Conrad/Gregg commission proposal!
