A big reason why the government is inefficient and ineffective is because Washington has outdated technology, with federal workers having better computers at home than in the office.

This startling admission came Thursday from Peter Orszag, who manages the federal bureaucracy for President Barack Obama.

The public is getting a bad return on its tax dollars because government workers are operating with outdated technologies, Orszag said in a statement that kicked off a summit between Obama and dozens of corporate CEOs.

“Twenty years ago, people who came to work in the federal government had better technology at work than at home,” said Orszag, director of the Office of Management and Budget. “Now that’s no longer the case.

“The American people deserve better service from their government, and better return for their tax dollars.”

The White House release that included Orszag’s comments said one “specific source” of ineffective and inefficient government is the huge technology gap between the public and private sectors that results in billions of dollars in waste, slow and inadequate customer service and a lack of transparency about how dollars are spent.

If the White House destroys the world because their computers are working improperly, well that's their fault. They probably buy those $900. computers for $20,000. each or more... so let them call their spouses, brother-in-laws, cousins they gave the multi billion dollars contracts too, and ask them to fix it. Their incompetence is not my problem.

Well I don't dooubt that fed employees have better computers at home than at the office making an average of 80K/year. If you want to fix THAT problem bring fed salaries in line with private sector counterparts, and then you can take 10% of the savings and buy better computers in the office.

Oh wait! That would be operating government like a REAL business with a REAL budget, and a need for efficiency! Never mind, I'll just shut my silly self up right now.

I couldn't believe what I read going through post after post... It's almost like we have foreigners running the money and controlling the Puppets in this country/Washington DC. Doesn't seem it all out for themselves? Orszag right in the of creating all this; Inflation, Leveraging, and PONZI schemes. I've done a bit of purchasing for Federal agencies and been in sales meetings with IBM reps (now that is a scarry "men in black" experience!)

The system works like this - each agency puts out bid proposals to various companies each year and the one that comes back with the lowest cost wins. Slight problem - that's the lowest cost for the base system, which they sell cheap! Then you add on to that - memory, HD's, OS's, etc. and all these things are priced through the ceiling! At NASA, I was lucky as I could order off the Navy's or some other agencies price lists if ours didn't have what I needed. They had done a better job of negotiating.

At another agency, we had some rather large servers, but the sales reps wanted us to "rent" - er I mean license additional modules at massive costs. each module didn't do much, but they built upon each other. Then there was the required service contract. I know of another agency where this company won the contract one year, and workstations started getting delivered to everyone's door. Problem was that this agency had been using Suns for 15+ years and developing software for them - none of which would run on the new systems. Those were some very expensive door stops!

And he gets the position in spite of his horrible job resume just because he is friends with Rahm Emanuel.
And the worst part is how quite the media has been.
You know, in all honesty, Iceland should be throwing a complete fit because this guy has been allowed to get another high level job. They should be following him around hounding his every move.
