I think we should all donate to Haiti at once on the same day to show that

1.) We believe in the power of private chairty, and voluntary altruism to help those in need
2.) We are not isolationists, the people who support using the military to occupy where they are not wanted instead of help where they are wanted are the true isolationists

We could give Ron Paul a nice talking point when people try and accuse him with not being generous enough with other people's money.

I support this!

However the Red Cross is already getting money bombed. Maybe we could pick one of these? :D

Baptist Haiti Mission http://www.bhm.org/bhm/index.php Has a functioning hospital outside Port-au-Prince that is swamped!

Samaritan's Purse http://www.samaritanspurse.org/ Franklin Graham's organization that just sent a team of doctors to BHM (there is a chance my father will join them in a few weeks through SP)

God's Littlest Angels http://www.glahaiti.org/home An orphanage in Petionville that has made it through but expects an influx of new earthquake orphans in the coming days

Quisqueya Christian School http://quisqueya.org/ My former school in Port-au-Prince. Campus miraculously sustained little damage so they are setting up makeshift hospitals and living quarters in the school buildings and on the soccer field. They are also collecting money to help with funerals and burial expenses for students and faculty that have died...

These are on the ground, established and helping people now and I know them not to be corrupt. If you feel led to help anyone of these, I know your money will do a lot of good....

Good point. I've given to red cross before, and this seems like an appropriate time to do it again.

Hopefully he was talking about the Red Cross? They hung on to some of the 9/11 money they got.

Also post Katrina there were locally some pastors who had found people willing to open their homes up to victims. The Red Cross wouldn't allow them to post the information at their center because the R.C. is U.N. instead of a Christian organization. It's funny but the Red Cross doesn't mind asking churches to put Red Cross info on church bulletin boards. That said, anyone who feels most comfortable giving to the Red Cross be my guest. Charities can compete in the free market too. ;)

Sorry, not to sound cold and insensitive, but every penny I have to spare is going to rebuilding the foundation of the house in which I live. Once that is accomplished then I believe everyone within this house will be able to help their neighbors rebuild theirs.

I don't disparage, nor condemn, anyone for where they choose to help out financially. I just know that if this house were in better shape then more would be able to help were they see fit.

My priorities: local>state>federal>world.

Right now I don't have enough for the world.

Why give them money, they are better off dead. Their country is hell.

I'm out... let obama take the money he has raped from the country already and allocate some from General Motors and Bank of America and Chase to send to Haiti. Or this... what they plan to donate for my health care... I'll donate it to Haiti... lmao.. Let AIG and Travelers Insurance donate on my behalf, lmao.
