While most Americans agree that we should provide disaster relief to our neighbors, support for perpetually sustaining a nation for all time is hard to stomach. America built Haiti’s infrastructure, policed, and propped up the nation from 1915-1934. In 1973 to the present the US has consistently been Haiti’s leading source of foreign aid. Today one half of the Haitian operating budget comes in from foreign aid from the US, Canada, France, and other white nations. Even more comes from private charities using money donated mostly by white people. Since 2006 Haiti began receiving money from Cuba and Venezuela as well.

In 2007, the United States gave $42 Billion in foreign aid to 69 different foreign countries. This number has been rising each year from only $17.5 Billion in 2000! Countries that received a half billion or more include: Afghanistan, Columbia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Mali, Pakistan, Russia, and the Sudan. Haiti received a meager $200 million, less than many previous years. This does not count the hundreds of billions spent each year providing for the defense of Japan, Europe, South Korea, and others.
