I go to Texas Tech and am about to take a class taught by former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. I understand he resigned amid controversy and was involved in torture memos and he is not very liberty friendly. Could anyone elaborate on the terrible things he did while in office?

I don't know anything about him.

I just noticed that this was your first post, though. Welcome to the forums!

I was just looking for a quick summary, not sorting through pages of articles.

"The fact that the Constitution—again, there is no express grant of habeas in the Constitution. There is a prohibition against taking it away. But it’s never been the case, and I’m not a Supreme"
Alberto Gonzales, in regards to Habeas Corpus

He was also Attorney General during the NSA wiretap controversy. Essentially, he confirmed the NSA was wiretapping on Americans without warrants. If you want more details on the affair, Wikipedia is a good place to start.

Just be prepared, read up on him and use his heinous unconstitutional actions against him. Be prepared for a lot of stuttering, his bad memory, and um's.

I know one PoliSci major and he's a hardcore Obamabot. An especially tenacious hardcore Obamabot because he can spew lines of political babble that make no sense to me and is thus difficult to argue with.

Don't remember much anymore but I know he gave Colbert about 1,000 jokes.

Just make sure you do this.

He was Bush's lawyer. Addington was Cheney's lawyer.
This will tell you all you need to know.

Alberto Gonzales is not fit to be teaching any class, much less a college level poli sci class.

One of his big scandals was that he fired 8 US attorneys that were investigating corruption in the republican party. He also said "I can't recall that information" literally 75 times during one of the hearings on that scandal. He seemed to remember absolutely nothing about his term as Attorny General. In other words, he lied under oath at least 75 times.

More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dismissal_of_U.S._attorneys_controversy

Here is some Olbermann coverage during the height of the scandal.

he's Mike Leach on steroids....

if he were AD at Texas Tech, Adam James would have been waterboarded.
