How would "divorce" work if the state had no interest in marriage? If there were no marriage certificate or any other such state involvement in contracts amongst adults?

Curious?

Marriage is a contract between two private individuals. Those two people can choose to void the contract. Marriage has been around for 1000s of years; it's not new.

Create your own contract when you marry. The contracts can be done by the church or a lawyer or whatever.

Or you can choose to get married without a contract. No obligations.

If you put both your names on the house when you buy it, then you gotta work it out yourselves if you decide to break apart.. unless there is a contract worked out beforehand.

The contract can include alimony payments, child support, wealth division, all kinds of stuff.

Or you can choose to get married without working that stuff out beforehand.
