Ha! Yaron Brook read this you dolt.

I'll be blunt here. I abhorr Ayn Rand, and I wish Stossel did a show on something more relevant, compelling, and more enlightening.

I'm wondering what others thought around here.

(Why no show on Ludwig Von Mises, or Frederic Bastiat, or what about John Locke?)

No, have to do a show on Ayn Rand...

I am not in favor of the cult that has developed either, but it is a very relevant book for people to read; and it was instrumental in getting people interested in libertarianism and realizing the root of why government needs to be kept minimal.

Also this reaches people who are more into the humanities than economics.

Those would all be good shows as well. But as he mentioned, it has polled as the 2nd most influential book for Americans behind the Bible.

Exactly. We almost owe the fact that there was such a large show of support for Ron Paul to the influence she has had on so many people.

I understand and pretty much agree with her basic premise, but as a novel it's not very good and she was an awful human being. 1000 pages of what are essentially essays and speeches passing as fiction. You can get everything you need to know about her philosophy by reading her essay The Virtue of Selfishness and even that is too long and barely readable.

Rand showed at great length what would happen if the forces of collectivism won out over the forces of individualism. A shorter book could not have done as good a job as she did with Atlas Shrugged. It cemented my love of liberty in a way that no other writer could have, and it helped to feed my philosophy and make it more powerful.

After that, all that was needed was the non-aggression principle to create a near-perfect philosophy for dealing with people at all levels. It has really helped me as a manager, as an investor, as an amateur economist, and as a political commentator. Now, it is easy to see the logical fallacies present in any liberal or neoconservative argument, where before it was murky, and almost impossible to achieve real dominance in a debate about politics with outspoken liberals (neocons are easier in that regard).
