By Tom,
The hypocritical nature of her agenda is clear to most Catholics, who rest assured the stance of the Pope on the subject. This is no secret. True, Church and State should be separate, and ideally they would be, but the power of the Vatican stands secure with more than one-billion members worldwide. It is one of three “city states” (Washington, DC and the City of London being the other two) in existence today. This is no laughing mater; the power wielded by the Vatican is serious and statistically proven to make a difference. Although it is not wise to advocate mixing Church with State, there is also no reason to deny the obvious. Not to mention the obvious conclusion reached by non-religious citizens: Nancy Pelosi proclaims to uphold a religion that denounces her policies. While many agree that abortion is a private decision for a woman and her doctor to evaluate, depending the circumstances, her comments on this issue are border-line pro-eugenics:
Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government. ~Drudge Report (http://www.drudgereport.com/)
Call me crazy, but to me this insinuates a state sanctioned depopulation agenda. To make matters worse-- the culprit is saving the state money!
The "state" is the people, Madame Speaker, in case you've forgotten. Considering this, her intentions here ought to be evaluated, regardless of anyone's religious or moral beliefs. Abortion is an issue hard to take sides on (usually, because it is highly circumstantial), still most will agree that eugenics is black-and-white.
