We have a great opportunity to run one of the Ron Paul TV ads in high-concentration GOP areas of Michigan during the Michigan debate next week.
They still need funds.
You can find the Chip-In link together with discussions of the plan and back-up plans here:
http://www.michigan4ronpaul.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=795&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30

Friends, the Michigan primary is Jan. 15th and it brings with it many times more delegates than any of the states that will hold their primaries and caucuses before it.

I can't think of a better way to focus ads on precisely the audience we want. This is a marketing opportunity with huge payoff.

The fund is at $268. They need $2000 by Oct. 8th to run the ads.

Don't you need to perform a PAC to do this?

It's in cooperation with the same PAC that did the NH ads. That point is already discussed at the link I placed above. It's all legit.

It's the same chip-in. But this one is a single post by itself, the one I put up before was in the middle of a thread.

Is the total really $5000? I'm confused....

They need a minimum of $2000 to run an ad in some areas at some times, but they can run it more times and in more areas with more money. So they set the limit at $5000.

Well, take a look at the Michigan message board that you linked to. There seems to be some people on there that do not understand that their donations are going to be funneled through the PAC. You might want to clarify that with them. It might allay their fears and result in more donations for this. Just a thought.

I think I might be the one who didn't understand that and what I posted here is their answer to my question when I brought it up there.

The person in charge now says that she'll be able to get an ad even if we only get $1000. We're at $543 now. So this is very doable! After we break that barrier, then the more we make the more air time we can buy.

I don't know which ad it will be. I know there was a discussion of it on the thread in the michigan4ronpaul forum. But I don't remember what they settled on if anything.

Another alternate link. The chip-in ad for this is now also on the front page of the Michigan for Ron Paul website, which is a good place to check in from time to time anyway if you're interested in the Michigan segment of the campaign:

What about getting this donation action alert on the front page next to the NH FF flier?

Its obviously legit and probably needs to be done asap.

That's a great idea Austin. I didn't want to toot my own state's horn. But, since you brought it up, I have to admit, I think it's a worthy cause.

Looks like the donations have really slowed down for this in the last couple hours. We're stuck at $543. That's only $487 away from the bare minimum we need to run an ad. You guys can definitely do this. Another 15 small donations is all we need for that.

Just a question, but can't the Michigan folks chip in more on this?

Is it my imagination, or does this forum seem like it has become the fundraising mechanism of first resort, instead of what one would expect. First trying to collect the money in your own state Meetup groups and if you just can't quite get there, coming here to ask for some help.

I can't speak for other chip-ins. But in this case, this forum was not the first resort. The chip-in had been going on for awhile before I posted it here. I think more Michigan people didn't donate because they didn't think they could get enough. Now that the total is getting higher, that will hopefully change.

As for why people here should donate too, it's because it's for a cause that helps us all, getting Ron Paul elected President. Some people here are maxed out for their contributions to the official campaign, and are looking for other opportunities that will have the maximum payoff for their money.

This is one of those opportunities. Winning in Michigan could be a bigger boon to the campaign than winning in New Hampshire. And next week will be a prime opportunity to build interest in Ron Paul there because of the debate and his appearance at U of M.

It's also different in MI because for the first time there is a real primary instead of caucus .. so every vote counts!

Even just $5 would help. If 98 more people give that much then the ad will run and reach thousands of people in a focused audience of the people we need to reach at a time that is ripe for winning them over.

There are 4,000 members of the Ron Paul Forums. If only 85 of them donate $5 like you did, then we'll have the $1,000 and these ads will run.

Frankly, I think we ought to gun for the $2,000 mark. It looks like the coverage we get for that would hit more GOP primary voters.

That's the spirit. I just there in $50 myself. I'm gonna be so broke after this campaign, but it never felt so good to be this broke. It's for a good cause, it's our country people, let's get off our couches!

The deadline is tomorrow. The person running the chip-in says they may extend it. But we really stand the most to gain by running this ad this week to supplement the coverage Paul is going to have in Michigan. So it's a fleeting opportunity.
Right now they're at $653. And they need a bare minimum of $1000.

The sad thing about all this is that our meetup group (#4 in country, 500+members) has never mentioned a word about this. I would've never donated if I wouldn't have found out about it here. And the way things are going, we might get our dollars refunded anyway. This chip-in should've been a slam dunk, especially with all of the maxed out donors we have.

Why not send a message out to your Michigan meetup group?

The deadline has been extended. The chip-in graphic doesn't reflect the new deadline yet. But I clicked it and it looks like you can still donate.

To FSP-Rebel, one reason you might not have heard much about this through your meetup (if you're part of the Detroit Meetup, which it looks like you're saying), may be that the Detroit Meetup is run by Paul Garfield who is on the official campaign staff. This ad has to be kept completely separate from the official campaign. So the main michigan4ronpaul website and the Detroit Meetup can't publicize it. At least that's what I understand the situation to be.

OK, the deadline is now Oct. 12th. And we're at $728 right now. That's only 11 more contributions of $25. Or, if everyone on the forum right now gives a mere $5, the cost will be covered immediately.

I just want to clarify the status of this. It is still going on. And it is still for TV commercials in Michigan, unless the contributors all decide otherwise or enough money ends up not being raised. However, the possibility of the ads being during the debate is past.
