Hello all!

I'm sure you've all heard and read Ron Paul's speech regarding the Tax Free Tips Act (TFTA).

And let me tell you, Ron Paul couldn't have possibly done anything better to arm his grassroots army. The TFTA is a golden opportunity!!

I edited a nice flier that someone else here made which contains the speech and then information about how to support the act and RP's president bid. You can find it here:

Tax Free Tips Flier (http://files.meetup.com/518875/TaxFreeTipsAct.pdf)

I did a test today and gave out the flier to all the restaurants and pizza joints in and near my route home from work...

It was an overwhelming success! I went to over 10 different places and only one did not accept the flier. Everyone else was very receptive and generally excited at having the opportunity to keep all their tips tax-free.

Therefore, I propose that other Meetup groups and ambitious individuals distribute the flier to EVERY restaurant, pizza place, bar, and other places with tipping in their area. Think of the impact this could have with minimal effort. I spent no more than 30 seconds at any one place and covered them all within 30 minutes or so. This was my basic approach:

"Hello, I'm just dropping in to inform you that there is legislation being proposed in Congress that would make tips tax-free. Since service-sector employees rely heavily on the tips they receive and would likely support this act, I hope that you can post this somewhere in your break room or kitchen for them to read."

That's all it takes. Sometimes they'll ask a few questions and that provides a good opportunity to bring up Ron Paul and his Presidential bid. I find it appropriate to leave him out of the initial push because it makes the flier seem more relevant and less politically motivated.

I'm now convinced that this is one of the most effective tactics to garner new support for Ron Paul and I implore others to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity!

I agree. I posted a similar message in the DONATE NOW thread.

I'll be doing this on Sunday. I think I'm going to use one of the 3 per page "slim jim" style flyer's though to minimize printing costs.

I'm working up a list of bars, restaurants, and possibly hotels in the area so I can plan an efficient route. Then I'm going to go "door to door" during their non-rush hours and talk to them on Sunday.

I can see one problem, maybe someone could help out. Servers usually carry cash. What if they want to donate to the campaign on the spot? I plan on telling them to go to the website and donate directly, but that might get forgotten. It's best to get it while it's there. During the Gun Show we took up a few cash campaign donations. How does that work? Do I donate it as if it came from me? Do I get their name and address, and forward it to the campaign?

Good idea. I think I'll print some out tomorrow and keep them on me for any time I get some pizza or something.

Great job. Is anyone still working on the mailing list for the grassroots? If you have a bank of e-mails could you send out an alert about this idea?

This flier has a lot of great information that deserves a lot of exposure.

It would be great if someone could punch it up a little bit with some graphics to catch people's eye.

Maybe a cartoon of Uncle Sam shaking dollars and coins out of a waiters pockets.

Maybe even just an image of a Tip plate, and the headline "Your hard-work earned those tips. Ron Paul wants you to keep 100% of them!" Something to that effect.

Any graphics artists out there up for the job?

The Taste of Bethesda is happening Saturday. More than 50 restaurants, consolidated in their booths around the Woodmont triangle. Maryland meetup groups, are you interested? Plus, it is 3 blocks from the Bethesda metro, which attendees are encouraged to take. This could be two passing out RP lit opportunities in one (1) The Taste of Bethesda for the TFTA, and (2) the Bethesda metro stop for regular RP lit.:)

Well, you can do whatever you feel like but I don't think donating for other people is legal unless you are part of a PAC. You could get their personal information but a lot of people would feel uncomfortable giving that out. My recommendation is to tell them to donate online themselves.

If we can get just 100,000 servers nationwide to donate $25, that's $2.5M towards the 12. I think 100,000 servers from CA to Maine isn't asking much.

That's what I figured. I don't really feel comfortable taking someone's cash anyway.

You can print out some of the donation forms from the PCC website and carry them around.

https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate/

There is NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT to get someone's donation. They may very well forget by the time they get home.

I sent the following PM to MyKillK, but I thought I'd post it here as well in case someone can get to it faster. I cannot edit PDF's, or I'd do it myself. Can someone help out?

I love the look and feel of the flyer, but the bit that was written and put below Ron Paul's speech needed some touching up. I had my wife, who's an excellent writer and editor look it over and spice it up. Is there any chance you can update this on the flyer and repost it somewhere? I think these updates really help make this flyer top notch.

Also, can you leave the address for the meetup group either blank, or without the specific meetup group number on the end so we can customize it for our area?

I appreciate your hard work on this; these flyers are going to be a hit when we pass them out all over town!

Here's the new piece for the bottom of the flyer:

This is a bill introduced on 9/25/2007 by Republican Presidential Candidate Ron Paul: The man for the people. If
you ever had any doubts about there being someone who would protect your liberties and not just their own special interests, this should alleviate them.

Ron Paul has legislation on the table right now that would exempt tips from taxation. Finally... someone who understands and cares about how hard you work for your money. Someone who understands that tips should be viewed as a reward for a job well done. Tips are gifts; they are based on your motivation and dedication to serving others. Most people in service industries don't even make minimum wage (they are exempted because they receive tips). Then, to add insult to injury, the IRS usually determines ahead of time how much you should be making and taxes you accordingly whether you make that much in tips or not.

Service folks, you have a shot at being able to keep your money without the IRS constantly looking over your shoulder. This bill will not pass without a fight. Please everyone, call your congressmen and tell them you support the Tax Free Tips Act! Tell everyone you know! But you must communicate to Congress your support of this bill. Call them, write them, email them. Get busy! You have just been handed one of the greatest gifts of your lifetime. Don't blow it! You can look up your Representative online by going to http://www.house.gov/writerep/ or calling the US House switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

Pass this on!!!! Post this in the kitchen, break room, etc.

Vote for the greatest man of our time, Ron Paul, in the Republican Primaries for President of the United States.

If you're not registered to vote, register now! He supports you. Now is the time to support him!

If nobody knows about it, and they're handing you money, if you want to eat up your 2,300 max donation that way it's up to you. I'd say the campaign finance laws are easily challenged anyway. Remember, if we aren't willing to fight and even die for our rights, we will lose them.

Wow, quick response! Thank you! Can I talk you into making the adjustment on the other page where the meetup group website address is? Can you remove that so we can write in our local meetup address? If you just listed it as "http://www.ronpaul.meetup.com/", we could hand write our meetup group number on the end there.

You're only looking at the first page. There should be two pages. It's near the bottom right in the corner if the page with RP's picture on it.

Nope, I have it done. Here is the final copy for anyone who wants to use it. I would of course edit the site address on the front page to reflect your actual local Meetup group's address. Have fun, and get out there!

This works! The St. Louis Meetup group did it in downtown St. Louis a few days ago and I've done it to every place that gets tips in my town. I also did it with a few people in Nashville, TN the night before the rally.

The most important thing about this is it reaches a demographic that has no idea who Ron Paul is. Of 50+ businesses I've had 3 people who have heard of Ron Paul and of those not a single one had heard of this bill. Please get out there and do this in your town!

In my area, only illegals work as waiters/waitresses/delivery guys.

This idea will work if you live in areas where the people who'd benefit are mostly white.

Ouch. Agreed. I have a feeling that the one place (still only one to-date) that refused the flier also employs illegals.
