It didn't take long for this topic to make its way into the MSM.

Yes it is an excuse to move us closer to a police state and take more liberty away from the citizenry.

TPTB know of some things that are forecast to happen and they are trying their darndest to not let those things happen, all the while making those very things happen that they try so very hard to avoid ! ! !

I've seen lots of women who look like DA-BOMB in their underpants. :D

Working the pervert machine will be a prized position in the TSA.

How did we ever come to this?

Looking at the naked body of everyone who chooses to fly?

In the full body scans, can they actually see you nude? If so, oh no.

Yuck. I wouldn't want that job. A few hotties might go through from time to time, but it wouldn't be worth all the horrifically ugly people going through most of the time.

If you want to look at naked people, there's lots of free porn on the internet of attractive people.

Just wait until these are deployed on the streets of America. First they will be at sport arenas and at various events. Eventually they will become HDTV quality pictures. I'm sure we're a few decades away from pervert cops sitting in their cars looking at unsuspecting women with their handheld neked scanners.

The day we have have to walk through these without a choice is coming. Unfortunately, not many other people will stand their ground and refuse to go through them... no matter what the consequence.

Airplane, enclosed space many people.

Cinema, same

Bus, same

Ship, same

Conference, same

Stadium, same

Any building, same

Any public gathering, same

Still, plenty of places where naked scans are needed...

Come on Congress, I still have too many liberties left, you're behind schedule in relieving me of them

That's what would turn the freaks at the monitor on, getting to the hotties and having a box of tissues near by...

I mean its so perverted its almost beyond words.

Legally mandated viewing of people's naked bodies.

If I had the power, I would permanently ban these scanners from use anywhere, or at the very least (if the ban didn't gather enough support), put a legal requirement to have life sized posters for
both genders (in several different levels of fitness) showing exactly what is seen in these scanners, and let people make a voluntary decision to go through them knowing how much detail is shown!

I bet that there would be very few people who would go through these scanners, under such circumstances.

At this point, I'll only fly if I really have to, and I'd get a pat down before I'd go through one of those things, just on principle.

This is not going to stop terrorist #1, just as the mass shoe strippings didn't stop Abdulwhathisnameallab. It's just another indignity. Terrorists will always slip through, and they'll always use it as an excuse to tighten the airport surveillance state even further.

I predict a revival in trains and ocean liners if the current trend continues.

I wonder what will happen when modesty/religious objections start popping up.

I can think of a VERY large number of women (not just Muslim) who would find that scan uncomfortable, myself among them. The alternative provided will probably be a "pat down" which really don't solve anything. Instead of some grubby worker's eyes on me, I get their hands. They'll then say "well, we'll make sure we put a worker of the same gender behind the scanner." Frankly, none of this flies with me. I should certainly have a choice as to who I show myself to, and how, with some very SUPER rare exceptions. If I were arrested and in maximum security prison? I could see body scans gleefully taking the place of cavity searches. That'd probably be a little bit of a relief.

What do these scanners pick up, and what don't they? That information will get out soon enough. Then these will be really expensive paperweights. To add insult to injury, do we know what the health effects of going through these machines over... and over... and over.... and over... and over again are going to be? Some of us travel quite frequently. It's not something I really want to subject myself to. People with artificial limbs or joints (and there are going to be more and more of them, after all these wars and as the Boomers age) are going to look VERY suspicious through these. I know you can get your doctor's note and carry it with you, but will that be scrutinized? If not, what's the point? I could hide weaponry so that it looks (to the scanner) like I have a fake hip... then walk on through with a forged note? Hmm.

Let's assume for even ONE second that this stops terrorism dead in its tracks. You can no longer get anything past those incredibly sharp TSA people. Sure, the lines are a bit longer, but everyone is safe. Well, they're safe on the planes.

Hey. Genius. Yes, you. Wile E. Security Guard. Now that you've created a bottleneck during the holidays, where hundreds of people are jammed into a fairly small area for security checks, in lines so long they mingle back with the ticket counters... has it remotely occurred to you what a GREAT target has been created? Hundreds of people in a cramped area, before the checkpoint, at an airport... a situation nearly all of us have been in before, or expect to be in someday. You know what would totally create terror? Doing something THERE, at THAT point. THAT would actually scare MORE people than some man's exploding underwear on a plane, because the odds of you being on the precise plane with underwear-guy are very slim, while the odds of you having to go through security when you go to the airport are 100%, and there are only a few choices. It will create a panic attack situation for so many people that they'd finally say "That's it: I am not flying again."

Of course, you could then mandate screening when you got to the airport, before the ticket counters. Again, that'd cause another line. Again, wherever the screening is, you could always "attack" right before with a huge bomb, and no one would have "checked" you out yet. If they move the scanning to everywhere around an airport, just look at lines at the mall, or the stadium, or wherever. Security itself is creating HUGE crowds of people WAITING to get screened who have, by default, NOT been screened yet. No one sees the problem with this?

Meantime we'll still be "unsafe" and have "Scanner Cancer" to deal with, too.

I like how the pics show the scanners exposing weapons such as knives and guns, though those items wouldn't pass through a metal detector unnoticed

Well what we REALLY need to know is... will they detect toenail clippers?

This is too much intelligence for government to process.

Plastic/Ceramic weapons, get by metal detectors.

But this isn't the point: You can screen all you want but a person who wants to commit mass murder WILL find a way to do it.

People walk on the streets in crowds for example, crowds are not that hard to find.

I mean a terrorist would just go and attack a place that's not yet screened, and eventually everything will be screened.

No freedom left for citizens, and from terrorist point of view, mission accomplished, twice over.

They will "fix" it. You will need screening to enter/exit all buildings, including your own home.

But they'll rescreen, of course, at major events. You might have picked up a rock or a tree branch outside. You might have left your home with one component (harmless on its own) of a weapon, and combined outside with another person who has the other component (harmless on its own, too). Even if you put a scanner at every doorway and intersection, you would still have the bottleneck at certain popular events, AND you would still have the ability of people to sneak around, make some kind of weapon, and set it off at that bottleneck.

This really sucks because the only way to protest this is to not fly but by doing that you're raising the prices for everyone else who needs to fly for their job......

The way they sewed those chemical explosives into the guy's underwear probably wouldn't be detected by that type of scanner. The "sniffer" machine would be needed (or a dog).

Hell just have everyone strip naked and put on airline-issued undies and robes, then check ALL baggage. (I shouldn't encourage them.)

All you need is a clean airline towel to sit on. ;)

Fly Nudist Airlines! No special screening required...
