A great group, 100+ members strong, and very active. I don't live in Dayton anymore but it's my hometown and i keep in touch... all my friends and family are still there. I just got this email from the organizer - I already wrote him an email urging him to reconsider. If anyone has any time i urge you to pass along a message of support. It would be a tragedy for this meetup group to fall apart merely because the organizer has become disillusioned.

A total of 2.3 million Ohioans voted in the 2004 primary.
That number represents passionate Ohio Democrats & Republicans.
5.7 million voted in November 2004.

I think it safe to say the 2300 who cast votes in the Faux "straw poll" do not represent the 'heartbeat' of Ohio. They represent a very vocal, very wealthy, small minority (~30%) of Ohioans who still think GWB Jr. is a righteous president and embodies the principals of the GOP. Sad to say, but whenever GWB Jr. shows his face in Ohio, thousands of locals show up to cheer him on. Even sadder to say, the GOP continues to back GWB Jr. in spite of his traitorous lies that have cost the lives of close to 4,000 patriotic soldiers, suffering of 10's of thousands more of our own and a needless war in Iraq that has resulted in the deaths of close to 1 million men, women and children. Iraq was stable before the invasion. Now it is a total mess and our presence (AKA Black Water) is just making it worse.
Unfortunately, the above small minority of 'love it or leave it' GOP members vote religiously and they will decide which Republican will win the Ohio Primary in March. It is a simple number thing and there are WAY more of them than us. They are die hard, take the war to them, life is good under Bush and there is nothing (other than the Truth Movement and/or financial ruin) that will change their opinion. They will be voting for Giuliani or Thompson & their vote in March 2008 was represented by the results of the 2300 online Ohio straw votes. Cry fault all you want, but very few Ohioans have a clue who Ron Paul is and what he stands for. If more than a few of you would wear RP t-shirts in public, you would understand that sad fact. In May, "Who is Ron Paul?" was music to my ears. Today it is disconcerting.
Since Ron Paul has already said he will not pursue the presidency if not endorsed by the Republican Party, I have decided to step down as organizer of this group. I still believe he could become the next president but I do not believe he will win the Republican nomination.
RP is a man of his word and certainly will not 'flip-flop' on that statement.
Furthermore, I certainly have no intention of trying to dissuade any of you from continuing to support Dr. Paul.
Passionately supporting a candidate for office has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
Unfortunately, over the last 2 months, I have lost passion with the RP 'campaign' and want that feeling of righteous passion and hope back.
I believe Kucinich, HR 333 & the 9/11 Truth Movement will do that for me.
This Saturday, Oct 6th, many of you will be at the SAF conference and I suggest you decide what you want to do with this meetup group. I am not spending anymore money on this campaign nor organizing anymore meetings. I have a bunch of t-shirts, DVD's, bumperstickers, doorhangers & printouts to give the next DAYTON area person who is willing to take over this group. Mostly my money invested in these materials, therefore all my choice.
Meetup charges $72/6 months for their services. My 6 months runs out in November. Somebody else step up and embraces the RP cause, or the Dayton RP cause dies. Just that simple.
A wake up call?
