A great group, 100+ members strong, and very active. I don't live in Dayton anymore but it's my hometown and i keep in touch... all my friends and family are still there. I just got this email from the organizer - I already wrote him an email urging him to reconsider. If anyone has any time i urge you to pass along a message of support. It would be a tragedy for this meetup group to fall apart merely because the organizer has become disillusioned.

-------------

A total of 2.3 million Ohioans voted in the 2004 primary.
That number represents passionate Ohio Democrats & Republicans.
5.7 million voted in November 2004.
http://www.sos.state.oh.us/sos/ElectionsVoter/Results2004.aspx

I think it safe to say the 2300 who cast votes in the Faux "straw poll" do not represent the 'heartbeat' of Ohio. They represent a very vocal, very wealthy, small minority (~30%) of Ohioans who still think GWB Jr. is a righteous president and embodies the principals of the GOP. Sad to say, but whenever GWB Jr. shows his face in Ohio, thousands of locals show up to cheer him on. Even sadder to say, the GOP continues to back GWB Jr. in spite of his traitorous lies that have cost the lives of close to 4,000 patriotic soldiers, suffering of 10's of thousands more of our own and a needless war in Iraq that has resulted in the deaths of close to 1 million men, women and children. Iraq was stable before the invasion. Now it is a total mess and our presence (AKA Black Water) is just making it worse.

Unfortunately, the above small minority of 'love it or leave it' GOP members vote religiously and they will decide which Republican will win the Ohio Primary in March. It is a simple number thing and there are WAY more of them than us. They are die hard, take the war to them, life is good under Bush and there is nothing (other than the Truth Movement and/or financial ruin) that will change their opinion. They will be voting for Giuliani or Thompson & their vote in March 2008 was represented by the results of the 2300 online Ohio straw votes. Cry fault all you want, but very few Ohioans have a clue who Ron Paul is and what he stands for. If more than a few of you would wear RP t-shirts in public, you would understand that sad fact. In May, "Who is Ron Paul?" was music to my ears. Today it is disconcerting.

Since Ron Paul has already said he will not pursue the presidency if not endorsed by the Republican Party, I have decided to step down as organizer of this group. I still believe he could become the next president but I do not believe he will win the Republican nomination.
RP is a man of his word and certainly will not 'flip-flop' on that statement.
Furthermore, I certainly have no intention of trying to dissuade any of you from continuing to support Dr. Paul.
Passionately supporting a candidate for office has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Unfortunately, over the last 2 months, I have lost passion with the RP 'campaign' and want that feeling of righteous passion and hope back.
I believe Kucinich, HR 333 & the 9/11 Truth Movement will do that for me.

This Saturday, Oct 6th, many of you will be at the SAF conference and I suggest you decide what you want to do with this meetup group. I am not spending anymore money on this campaign nor organizing anymore meetings. I have a bunch of t-shirts, DVD's, bumperstickers, doorhangers & printouts to give the next DAYTON area person who is willing to take over this group. Mostly my money invested in these materials, therefore all my choice.

Meetup charges $72/6 months for their services. My 6 months runs out in November. Somebody else step up and embraces the RP cause, or the Dayton RP cause dies. Just that simple.

A wake up call?

well, what is the deal.. Is somebody gonna step up? Maybe one of the assistant organizations..

what is baffling, is that he supports kucinich now and kucinich HAS MUCH MUCH less of chance than Ron Paul... so to me, it sounds rather suspect..

I mean, Just as RON PAUL is gaining momentum and really breaking thru - he calls it quiets.. sorta goofy if you ask me....

Why don't YOU sign up for the meetup and fire people up and get somenoe who is FOR SURE not a mole, someone who has been to meetups and participated to take the mantle... and have everyone chip in for the 6month membership.

WHAT IS HIS EMAIL: LETS ALL EMAIL HIM

I'm from Columbus, I'll see if my group can give him a bit of encouragement.

To be perfectly candid, given that this particular gentleman can switch so easily from Paul to Kucinich, I suspect that he never really understood the principles behind RP's message, anyway. Thus, while I'm sure that his departure will be a loss (at least temporarily), the Dayton group may well be better off in the long run.

i already sent him an email. i dont know what is up with him... the group is very successful relatively speaking. You're right Lord Xar... his explanations didn't make a lot of sense, and if he wanted to step down that is one thing - but to send out an email to the entire group telling them he's voting for Kucinich... just weird. I hope he reconsiders.

Nope. That's a sign that the group needs new leadership. :o

Yeah, plus who wants to follow a defeated leader. Not to sound mean, I'm sure he's a nice guy.

I can't believe Jack did this... He seemed like the most passionate supporter I had spoken with. My first public RP event was with Dayton, and Dayton was the first RP group in Ohio to be active. I consider him and the rest of the Dayton group at that time the inspiration for the takeoff of the Columbus group.

... hmm...

My friend, by the time Ohio votes, if Ron Paul has won most of the delegates up for grabs by then, Ohio Republicans willl vote for Ron Paul to be on the winning side. It always happens that way. Never discount the power of momentum.

100+ very active members need outside support because one guy decided this isn't worth his time anymore? Sorry this just seems overblown.

So whats the problem? LOL

100+ passionate supporter? And not one willing to step up with some kind of coercement from somone? Grow some b-lls people. Just step forward and take the wheel.

Simple.

How are we going to make it in a world where everyone has responsibility for themselves, as Ron Paul wants, if not a single member is willing to take charge of a group that they have put their sweat and time towards?

Seems pretty weak to me, unless im missing something here. Wheres your William Wallace? Your fearless leader?

I didn't read the full email until now. He says he believes more in the 911 truth movement and is - in a round about way looking to bring as many with him as possible. The last line says, "A wake up call?" - he is basicly telling people all is lost, he is leaving and so should you. I'd safely bet he didn't like Ron not endorsing his views 911 was an inside job so hes moving on.

Yeah, he seems to be a 911 Truther who cares more about the 911 Truth movement than he does about the Ron Paul presidential campaign.

This sounds about right. And like another poster said, if he can lose all hope and go with Kucinich...he was never fully clear on what Ron Paul is about. Sounds like some of what RP says backed up this guy's truther agenda so he went with it.

He also doesn't get that of COURSE the neocons are going to fight RP in Ohio! That's what they do. The two biggest obstacles in this race are:
1) facing tidal waves of ignorance and apathy, and
2) standing up to neocons who are mean, ignorant, ruthless, power hungry egotists who are not going to take this lying down.

Hey. If you can't stand the heat, guy....maybe you'll be more comfortable with the bedwetter Democrats.

So what does this guy think would happen if Kucinich got elected president? Suddenly we would have all those responsible impeached and behind bars? LOL

If someone supports kuccinich they definetly can't teach people much about Paul since Paul's ideas and principles are primarily totally incompatible with Dennis' socialism and "green" ideology that is all about "taking" liberty and private property.

No big deal. only 2 legs are missing out of 200.

I don't think he really cares about Kucinich. It came across that he'd rather be hanging '911 was an inside job' signs. The best thing that could have happened was he stepping down.
