Hey guys,

My cousin is being deployed to Afghanistan in, I believe, February. I want to give him some good liberty-minded books for his idle time. I already have a couple in my collection that I'm going to send with him, but would appreciate any other suggestions.

So far I have:

A Foreign Policy of Peace by Ron Paul
Revolution a Manifesto by Ron Paul
The Rise & Fall of Society by Frank Chodorov
Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt

Ideas?

The Legacy of Ashes shows how crazy imperialist/interventionist has been for so long. Its about the CIA.

Blowback by Chalmers Johnson
Dying to Win by Robert Pape

These two books are a must on foreign policy. They were part of Rudy's Reading List, when Paul destroyed him in the debates and held a press conference afterward.

I can't offer anything better than what has already been suggested. But prayers for your cousin man, I know quite a few people out there already, and I wish him all the best.

War is a Racket,
General Smedley Butler.
I'm in agreement with Terrel also and tell him to keep his head down.

Don't give him too many books. Just give him two or three that he can read first. Then, when he's finished, maybe send him some other ones. You can buy books yourself, read them, and then send them to your cousin.

Interesting video. Here's another of ANA getting stoned while operating with British Units

YouTube - *Stoned* Afghan Soldiers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQsK0oRphZw)

They think those cheap mercenary soldiers for hire are determined to win over the people of the countryside?

Reminds me of an article I saw a few months back from the Campaign for Liberty which basically equated the troop quality of the ANA with the highly unmotivated various tribal) Mercenaries who where hired to prop up the Roman Empire in its final stages- when soldiers posted on the frontier were constantly deserting. The article mentioned that many of these ANA soldiers take their weapons over to the Taliban as soon as payday arrives...they then come back a week later and enlist under a different name.
