Starting at 9:30 AM, the Minnesota PUC is holding a hearing on various issues. Agenda item number 12 is the case of a wind development being forced on some farmers in Nicollet county. The New Ulm Public Utilities commission threatened these farmers with eminent domain in order to get them to sign contracts with the wind project. Eminent domain is not currently an option for wind developments. With a little public participation, we can keep it that way. The PUC is not accustomed to the public participating in the public process, so anyone that shows up for support of the farmers will be noticed.

In "The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy", Arthur Dent explains how he had to break into the basement of the courthouse and jimmy open a locked file cabinet to read the "public" notice condemning his house. Finding the PUC office always reminds me of that passage. It is on the corner of S. Roberts and 7th place, right next to the Explore Minnesota office in St. Paul.

Meanwhile, half a state away, there is a raw milk rally being held in Viroqua Wisconsin to show support for all of the farmers that are being illegally harassed by state agencies.
