If you think any tom, dick, or harry should have M-16s you can't very well deny superior firepower to our police officers. What if some radical Marxists start a riot and are attacking people with M-16s? Should the police just hide in a corner and wait for the military to arrive?

That is mainly because such a situation hasn't arisen. I believe in gun rights and since that means putting powerful happens in the hands of average people who could very easily use them against innocents then there is no way I am going to suggest police should be largely defenseless against them.

No problem with that as long as I can have a M-16, too. So, where can I get one? Oh, I can't - thanks to the National Firearms Act of 1934 and the Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986.

Which was used as a template for the national criminalization of Marijuana in 1937- the end result of which gave us the War on Drugs which justified the militarization of our police force.
