View Full Version : The r3VOLution at CPAC (A Grassroots Proj3ct)

(Aspect #1)

A grassroots booth

So I had this hair-brained idea that the r3VOLution should have it's own booth at CPAC. I almost pulled that off (may still) ..., there was only one left though:eek:, so we acted quickly and will definitely be sharing a booth with Oathkeepers (OK).

While it would be nice to have a booth to ourselves, free and clear of organizational restrictions, this is the next best thing as OK is a NV Non-Profit Corporation, which gives us a lot of freedom (to promote candidates)

One of the reasons I like to do ambitious things is that it provides the opportunity for the greater grassoots to collaborate, co-ordinate, hone our skills, and be a part of something on a national scale. For the experience. I generally set it up and hope/pray for the best ;)

I see a great opportunity here and humbly ask for help, from those who trust me to represent, and from those who have the time and skills to put together a "presence" fit for r3VOLution.

At minimum I will need DVD's and other handouts. From there the sky is the limit.

Imagine screenings of For Liberty? Or a r3VOLution party/fundraiser?

One of the DVDs for handout will be "For Liberty." Am thinking of the activist pack edition for general distro, and the boxed set for VIP types...

The other will be custom, highlighting r3VOLution candidates and including some of the greatest videos to come out of our movement. I'm also thinking we might be able to craft some interviews from NV, Nueces, etc. into an appeal to avoid such ugliness in the future, and embrace our "big tent/small gov't" philosophy...

Will, also, need paper handouts. I figure one for r3VOLution candidates, and one for r3VOlution organizations.

What else?

And there is still a chance another booth could open up...

(Aspect #2)

Sponsor a Student

I would like to see us send at least a dozen students to CPAC. Tom Woods said he'd help promote. This kinda got me off my ass regarding this whole scheme. I was asked by Bierfeldt to help round up some students to take advantage of the package CfL has put together and that kinda clicked the puzzle into place. I believe we can reach outside our normal donor base for this. The bed/ticket package is ~$150 per. I'd like to find sponsors to cover both that and (cheap as possible) transport. They would be responsible for food/sundry expenses.

Funding

We already have the shared booth space :D. I have a couch in DC I can always crash on... :) It is on, whether I stand there and give out sharpie labeled DVDs from Freedom's Phoenix, and b/w 1/4 page "kinkos" printed fliers, or some cool custom r3v artwork.

I think we can can make this attractive to high end (maxxed out) donors, and organizations that may not be able to directly support a candidate, but want to help promote the slate, (such as Oathkeepers). I had positive responses all around at Freedom Summit.

I have talked to a few key people that will help round up some funding. I am hoping other members, here who are close to the various campaigns, consider co-ordinating to contact their maxxed out donors to help, as well. There is a lot of good that can come of this. Last estimate I saw was 9000 attendees...

AdamT has offered to help produce the "Liberty Slate" DVD, as well as work with donors to maximize distribution of "For Liberty." Can you help him? They'll cost about 50 cents a piece, how many do we want to have? How many boxed editions of For Liberty do we want to give out? and to who?

We could use vetting committees for candidates to include, and there is no way we will be able to list all candidates equally so we will need to figure that out. I figure there could be a website for "all" candidates and we can "feature" a broad range of a dozen or so... What is the best website listing our candidates?

Same for orgs.

Would googlewave be helpful for parts of this?

I would love to have the $4k booth cost on tap, ready to spring if a booth opens. Imagine the Full Page Ads on display, a Phoenix r3v backdrop, A flat screen cycling vids...

All funds can go through, American Liberty Coalition PAC (http://alcpac.com/) May need to make separate chip-ins to help with the accounting... Or a website...

I'm pretty busy with other things as well... Help please.

Definitely hook up with YAL and YoY for students that need sponsorships. I know a couple students that could certainly benefit from this.

EDIT: I'm also working with another coordinator from Indiana to get a 84 capacity bus to DC, which will be filled with mostly students.

Google Wave seems like a good place to start. krippy at googlewave

Is there a way we could get thousands of copies of "For Liberty" and "America: Freedom to Fascism" to hand out? Or other films? This is the place and time and people to influence if there ever is one...

I talked with Jared the other night, just made a wave with the three of us. I'm just learning wave...

I'm thinking contests; essay, or otherwise...

Yep, lots of y'all. I'm hoping to help as many as possible. We'll start with a dozen and hope for a gross :p

For Liberty? Definitely.

AFF and others? Not sure. Would rather a custom DVD that highlights candidates/orgs/solutions...

Don't want to dilute/overload

The question is... How many of each DVD for a estimated crowd of 9000? I'm sure we can put any leftover to good use so not to concerned with that.

Again, I am thinking outside the box for funding and have had preliminary success. The fundraising effort for the student aspect can also expand our donor base...

My first concern for the booth is getting two professional brochures and the custom DVD produced...

If I had to bet on someone to pull this off; I would put my money on RonPaulHawaii!!!

Maybe start by getting a budget together for supplies;(what is max capacity at CPAC?)
Possible-
DVD cases- single and double disc (Lots of Wholesalers)
DVDs
Ink and Label makers
Rented flat screens for display at booth
Handout flyers or brochures
etc...

Love the student idea; maybe if we set an early mark of 8 to 10 students which would be a cost of 1200-1500 (8x150 and 10 x150) sounds reasonable.
I guess you must come up with a way of selecting, maybe a short statement about what drew you to the liberty message.

Then narrow down what type of flyers you may want to hand out; "What is a Liberty Candidate" or "Why so many young people are drawn to Liberty movement"

I'm not sure about the flat screens unless we secure our own booth...

I like the youth angle and perhaps we can incorporate that into the custom DVD as well as perhaps a small table top poster?

I am hoping to raise $10k from foreign friends, just got a $100 commitment from the first one I asked :)

The more help we get, the better this will be...

These are the candidates that we're considering for the DVD handout. Would like a few more at the state level to include. We're looking 12 total. Thoughts, ideas?

Federal
Rand Paul (KY Senate)
Peter Schiff (CT Senate)
Adam Kokesh (NM House)
RJ Harris (OK House)
Jake Towne (PA House)
John Dennis - (CA House)

Local
Deb Medina (TX governor)
Bill Hunt (Orange County Sheriff)
Glen Bradley (NC State Legislature)

We're thinking of running 5000 of these DVDs to handout at CPAC. Too little or too much? Supposedly attendance will be over 9000 this year, up 40% from last year.

I'm wondering if we can get three more state level from NC and weave in a mention about efforts to redistrict Watt out of a seat?

Otherwise... Brogdon for OK Gov.? Maybe a success story with Rob Pepe (the new constable of Montgomery Country PA)?

Next we will be looking for 12 Liberty Orgs for the brochure...

On another note, we received a 5 figure seeding donation for this effort today.

The more help we get the better...

Writers and Graphic designers for the brochures, the DVD artwork, and promotional banners?

Maybe a website or two?

Promoters/Fundraisers for increasing our "presence"

What else can we do?

r3VOLution :D

Michael,

I think you need some sort of a disclaimer on this video like:

This is just a sampling of our wonderful constitutional liberty lovers stepping up to the plate to run for office in 2010. Obviously this dvd project cannot list everyone and we want people to know about some of the talent that is out there running to restore the republic. People are excited about the many ways that they too can help and be involved. After all it is our civic responsibility and goes without saying that we must be diligent with our awareness and our actions!

Great project!

Blessings,
Sandie

I hope to have a custom "liberty candidate website" to accompany the DVD and Brochure for this. Will need help. I've got temp tabs going up on the ride site for now.

The disclaimer is great. We are talking to Tom Woods about bookending the content with his unique form of commentary. I'll transfer your suggestion into the DVD wave :)

I would add SFL (Students for Liberty; similar to YAL), Free State Project (A must; possibly NH Liberty Forum also), CC2009, and the Appleseed Project and possibly FIJA.

I'm pretty biased, but I would highlight Mises, CFL, and FSP the most, followed closely by YAL/SFL, Appleseed, and CC2009.

The question becomes, how many sites can we attractively present on one trifold?

Basically, we will have the open sheet with three columns for the list and I am imagining a 1-2 sentence description for each. The front cover could have a "logo", and a quote? The inside and back covers could have text with a prominent link on the back leading to a comprehensive site (which, if I am not mistaken, is what libertyrevolution.com is designed for...)

OK, we are definitely on the waiting list for a dedicated booth. For now we need to make plans for the shared booth with OathKeepers. I think our best bet is to plan on two "table top posters". One will be the "ForLiberty" one that AdamT already has. The second will need to be created.

I think the most compelling theme for this might be, "Why the youth are flocking to the r3VOLution" I really want to emphasize the youth aspect of the r3v. I think that will resonate with the many of the attendees.

Have downsized, I'm just too busy to do much with it. We do have table space and full access. We'll be giving out "For Liberty" DVDs and 2 brochures (one candidate, one org)

Could still use help. I've been playing around with the design and copy for the brochures, but would much rather see a group of people here work on that. If I do it alone it will be simple and effective, if you all play a part it becomes grassroots artwork.

There will be two brochures, one for candidates that will include a link to a more comprehensive site (I think it would be "cleaner" and show more organization to just use one site for the more comprehensive list.

The org brochure can include some of these, but again, we will be limited to a dozen so must be choosy.

Handed out over 2000 flyers and 1000 copies of For Liberty yesterday! Ha. Very well received by most everyone, loving the real grassroots talk :)

I was wandering up by the event rooms yesterday and heard all this cheering coming from the Grand Ball Room. Peeked in to catch Cheney taking the stage. Walked up there and got footage of Darth himself. Scary being that close to pure evil.

Awesome Liberty Forum last night with a witty-as-usual Woods moderating Qs to RP and The Judge. The Judge is absolutely brutal in laying out our message, destroying neo-cons, calling out Cheney and the drones chanting "Run Cheney Run" earlier in the Ball Room.

Massive CFL/YAL presence here, by far have the most things going on. An entire isle in the vendor area has been dubbed "Liberty Row" for all the Liberty groups having tables and a presence. Jamming more today with the lit and free docs.

Having a free screening tonight with Jordan Page playing before. Maresco and I are intro'ing the film. Will be very interesting to see how regular CPAC attendees respond.

One quick thing. Yesterday at the Straw Poll table there were comments heard by the folks running the table as why so many are hating on Beck. People are really annoyed after the Medina thing. Funny how Beck is the "keynote" tomorrow. What a hack.

A guy just came by the booth who was at the doc screening last night. Wasn't a RP supporter. Said he had written off RP during the campaign, having been lied to by the MSM. Said he now understands and is in our camp, and will not take the media at face value anymore. Great story from CPAC.

Rp wins

:D

I'm still in DC, flying out today.

The Liberty Movement rocked CPAC. We need to double, or triple, our numbers next year, because the establishment drones are going to go all out to insure RP does not win again next year.

About my experience, perhaps I'll get more time to write a detailed post, but for now I'd like to share a few things

A HUGE shout out of appreciation to llepard for funding most of our expenses. We are lucky to have such patriots.

I spent most of my time in the lobby. Everyone kept asking if I was going to this or that lecture, but I had a job to do and was not about to let any opportunity, that llepard funded, go to waste. The only events I attended was the Liberty Forum with RP, Judge Nap, and TW, (Woods asked me personally to attend...), and RP's speech (wasn't about to let the neo-cons pack the ballroom.)

The after party events for the Liberty Crowd was another story and I did attend a few ;). Had a nice talk with Gary Johnson who asked me, "why him?" I told him he had beuilt the credibility and soapbox, and ended saying, "it is Duty" ( I don't think he liked that - haha.) Dancing with the LOLA girls is always a pleasure, though I remain a bit embarrassed by all the attention I get... Really, I am just a rigger from Hawaii with the same passion for America as most of you. I have done what I have, because I can. Everyone who is doing all they can is family and none are more special than any other - IMHO.

David Weigel interviewed me, (though still doesn't get my name right) and changed my words a bit...

Oath Keepers, a year-old coalition of right-wing military veterans, helped distribute copies of the Paul documentary — a favor to Paul activist Michael Moresco, who had won the organization’s “citizen activist of the year” award for biking from the Statue of Liberty to Alcatraz Prison. “It’s the direction I think this country’s headed,” said Moresco — from freedom to imprisonment.

I had great conversations with lots of people in the lobby. Had a guy come up and try to drag "conspiracy talk" out of me. He later came up and apologized...

I talked with the Kokesh Haters and had a measure of success. While some have drank too much kool-aid to be considered sane, others were more reasonable and we had them back-tracking on quite a few foreign policy positions, as well as some of the lies they were spreading.

I got rid of tons of DVD packs in the lobby. My pitch was, "A documentary of Grassroots Activism!" That had plenty of regular attendees turning to take what I was offering, but I wasn't having much success with the VIPs until I added, "We are the people who raised $6m in one day with no coordination from any campaign" that was the hook that brought them all scurrying back to take a copy - hahahahha.

We are definitely winning. There were many more votes for RP than there were volunteers. I had lots of greyhairs saying, "Oh, Ron Paul, I love that man". Our Straw Poll win was the icing on the cake. The establishment is realizing they need us a LOT more than we need them...

PRESS ON!

You should've seen MY pics from the Atlanta CFL/LOLA event. I can't really post them though because I'm sure they'd be used against me and others in the future by lurking political enemies, not that there was (much) libertarian debauchery goings on, but they are just silly and we all know that the establishment prohibits having fun while politicking :p

... Really, I am just a rigger from Hawaii What kind of "rigger"?

I gravitated towards the type of rigger who hangs line arrays/etc for large industrial events.

I don't know what to say about your final statement, other than saying that giving up my idyllic life there is the biggest sacrifice I have made, so far, for liberty...

I am not a height person so I never considered getting into that business. But you guys do some amazing work.
