VIDEO: Italian PM Berlusconi punched in face after Milan speech

By Reuters

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlsuconi left a Milan square with blood oozing near his lips after being punched in the face by a young man, a policeman at the scene said.

The premier, who had given a speech to thousands of flag-waving supporters, was immediately bundled into a car and taken to hospital for treatment for bruising, a member of his staff said.

"What they've done to Berlusconi is an act of terrorism," Umberto Bossi, head of the far-right Northern League and a close Berlusconi ally, told the Ansa news agency.

Does that rule only apply to "important" people or everyone?

CAUTION - looks pretty bad in the ITN video :

The premier was struck by an object thrown by a man who was arrested immediately, Ansa news wire reported.

A single punch can do a lot of damage. But his head should have moved.

Maybe, but comparing a boxer's punch in a boxing ring to someone taking a shot at the PM in a crowd isn't very comparable.

None of the videos show him actually being hit. What are you basing the "moving head" thing on?

How do you know there wasn't a boxer in the crowd? :D

Well looking at the video at the beginning he doesn't look bloody, then you see something go past his face and he is bloody. Maybe he was already bloody and I didn't get a clear look, I don't know.

That could have been Ron Paul that got punched in the face. Berlusconi is not hated for being a successful businessman or a red blooded man who loves women. He is hated because his a conservative. The media and the leftist establishment has been waging a war against him for years that has whipped up the lefty scum into such a fanatical extremism that something like this vicious assault was inevitable. I'm just glad he wasn't assassinated.

Berlusconi accused by Mafia hitman
By Guy Dinmore in Rome

Italy’s centre-right government on Friday was rocked by accusations made in court by a Mafia hitman that Silvio Berlusconi had made commitments to Sicily’s Cosa Nostra as he was about to enter politics 15 years ago.

Testifying behind a screen in a high security court in Turin, Gaspare Spatuzza, a Mafia turncoat, claimed he had been told by a top Sicilian mobster in January 2004 that Mr Berlusconi and his long-time business associate, Marcello Dell’Utri, had given “everything” the Mafia had wanted.

The prime minister’s office rejected the allegations, accusing Mr Spatuzza of seeking to sabotage the government’s crackdown on Cosa Nostra.

In spite of questions over the reliability of Mr Spatuzza, who is serving a life sentence for two murders, and the lack of detail in his accusations, the case is fuelling existing divisions in Mr Berlusconi’s coalition and is likely to exacerbate a war between the prime minister and judges he accuses of waging a political witch-hunt.

Gianfranco Fini, the speaker of parliament who is both an ally and a rival for power, has described Mr Spatuzza’s claims as an “atomic bomb”.

Adding to the image of a prime minister under siege, the court proceedings were broadcast live by Sky Italia, a satellite network owned by Rupert Murdoch, who Mr Berlusconi – a 73-year-old billionaire with his own media empire – has accused of joining the battle against him for commercial reasons.

Mr Spatuzza spoke at the appeal hearing of Mr Dell’Utri, a senator fighting a nine-year jail sentence imposed by a lower court for alleged Mafia association. Mr Dell’Utri denied the accusations and accused Cosa Nostra of trying to bring down the government.

Mr Berlusconi is involved in two trials of his own after the constitutional court removed his immunity from prosecution. On Friday, his lawyers told a Milan court that his presence at a cabinet meeting prevented him from attending a hearing where he is accused of corrupting the course of justice.

Mr Berlusconi has ruled out resignation or early elections. An investigation that followed similar allegations by another Mafia turncoat in the 1990s ended for lack of evidence.

The left have being using the courts for years to get at Berlusconi. There is not a shred of evidence against him in fact Berlusconi has cracked down massively on the Mafia just recently he put two senior Mafioso in prison.

When the legal campaign didn't work, the left used the media, dragging Berlusconi's private life into the public eye and making all sorts of innuendos against him. That failed also so now you can see the real desperation. They got thousands of women to mail bras to him and held mass demonstrations and now finally they have assaulted him.

What you are seeing here is the left using the court system and the media to politically assassinate the prime minister of Italy. It's an affront to democracy and is just another symptom of the arrogant, manipulative and over confidence of the left.

Really? He certainly put Italy into the Coalition of the Willing camp Bush created, sending Italian troops to help our criminal leader occupy Iraq against the will of the Italian people. Nothing conservative about that either, smacks more of Mussolini's aggression than anything else.

And a Distinguished Statesman, he won the award couple of years ago:

Friday, 26 September, 2003

the New York-based Anti-Defamation League said Mr Berlusconi deserved its Distinguished Statesman Award for his help to fight a revival of anti-Semitism in Europe, his support for Israel and his commitment to the war on terror.

"Berlusconi has sided with the USA against Iraq while the other countries were keeping quiet," the lobby's director, Abraham Foxman, told Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Although it's a sad state of affairs with corrupt leaders around the world, corrupt leaders everywhere deserve the abuse from the people. Granted, the people are complicit in the corruption by failing to bear their responsibility of electing leaders with integrity who will faithfully execute their oaths of office based on constitutional law. We ain't seen nothing yet. These leaders literally have nowhere to run and hide except possibly underground. I'm not even sure being underground somewhere will save these corrupt leaders from the wrath of the people. Gimme a shovel!

And yet at some point all hypochondriacs actually get sick. Should they ignore systems simply because they might not be sick? In this case we have a video that looks odd. Mr. Berlusconi is an older man. Any young guy with little skill could cause him damage like this with a sucker punch.

/ Offtopic
Thing's I've learned about being punched in the face over the years.

Best time to learn about being punched in the face?
Between 5 and 8 years old. Punches at this age by peers seldom do more than slightly bruise or bust a nose.
Results of punches at 12 to 14 years of age.
Can be cut if not careful for sure and nose broke. Wounds heal incredibly fast, but be sure to take care of scars carefully. you begin to run into some talented punchers at this age, speed is common power not so much.
Results of punches at 15 to 21 years of age.
If you haven't broken your nose by now you are very lucky, very smart, very talented, have a very broad, flat nose or don't like to fight much. You have a tough hide by now as an adult. Wounds still heal very rapidly. Take care of scars or else.
Results of punches at 22 to 28 years of age.
You are in your prime here in every aspect of the word and you had best take advantage of it in every aspect of the word. Time to start taking advantage of everything you have learned thus far.Heal fast but old injuries begin to take their toll at the worst of times.
Results of punches at 29 to 35 years of age.
Face it.
You are on the down hill slide from here on out. younger guys of equal skill will often times be faster. They may not punch harder though nor know as much. Many wars make for great experience and experience now is your only friend so use it. Wounds begin to take longer to heal and old injuries plague you on wet mornings.
Results of punches at 36 to 41 years of age.
Things get interesting. You are middle aged now believe it or not even with the heart of a fighter. Skin tone begins to take a turn for the, lets say, thinner and more apt to cut during a pummeling during the end of this time period and you (will) know it. Old scars are especially susceptible. Teeth don't hold in their socket like they used to and are harder to save when knocked out. Speed and reaction time begins to really head South. Younger Bucks will make a monkey of you now if you don't take care of business fast now so... don't fuck around.
That's all I got boys.
Sucker punches work on all ages.
All that and a cup of ice will get you some ice water in 20 minutes at room temperature.
