It's called "People Speak", produced by Howard Zinn. It involves many actors reading speeches and poems by many activists throughout American history. People like Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. Someone even uses the quote "Resistance to tyranny is obedience to God".

It on at 8 eastern time, should be very interesting. I hope to discuss it with some of you tomorrow.

Here's an interview with Howard Zinn discussing its inspiration

In summary. The History Chennel is promoting real citizen action for Barack Obama or progressivism. In other words it's great if you are protesting for universal healthcare, and carbon taxes. Well, that is no different than protesting for civil rights is what they are implying here.

If you are protesting for "right winger" causes, well than you are confused and angry. This might make you a fascist.

This is propaganda, but what else is new from the history channel.

Free your mind, those thoughts are not your own. Turn off the idiot box.

Ben,

Did you watch the video on the PBS website? Just wondering because it's the type of left wing nonsense you're likely to hear out of Obama supporters. He equates right wingers to fascists -- they utilize the frustration of the people and we should be careful because "that's how fascism starts." Yet, he completely ignores the fact that Barack Obama did exactly that -- utilize the frustration of the people -- and we elected that man to office.

He has anti war stances, I'll give him that. But I'll bet you Howard Zinn wants a type of social democracy, in other words, socialism.

Really? I think they're bringing up some important history. The constitution being strengthened in order to squash rebellion more easily, the hypocrisy of slave owners celebrating the 4th, etc. Not stuff you're going to hear very often on TV.

Do you think Lincoln's invasion of the South was justified?

No. Not under the circumstances.

They actually brought that up in this special, with the quote from Lincoln "If I could win the war without freeing a single slave I would do so" (paraphrase).

Specials on till 10 by the way.

Who cares what Michelle Malkin says, she's an idiot. Make up your own mind.

This documentary quotes socialists, anarchists, and everything in between. Right now they're talking about war profiteering and the stifling of dissent. I think those two things are issues we'd all like to see discussed more.

You seriously don't see how this is a presentation to push people toward the New Left?

Also, your response is predictable. Malkin makes great points.

Just finished watching, it was pretty good. The show attempted to show Americans that if they stand up and take control of their lives, they can actually change something. It gave some well known and some not well known examples of individuals working together to stand up to the man.

The didn't get around to talking about the recent anti-globalization movement, though they did show footage from some anti-WTO protests. This would have brought the whole thing full circle.

Michelle Malkin is using classic fear tactics, even highlighting all the words to scare you into ignoring the show. She try to twist "social movement" into a bad word, when its really just a group of citizens coming together to change some negative aspect of their society. We're a social group, in case you haven't noticed, doesn't have to have anything to do with socialism.

And it is not a tactic to push people towards a new left, it a push to get people off their asses. Did you watch any of the second half? Some parts in the first half did talk about citizen action to change labor laws and so on, but that was the minority of the material. Most of it was about the long struggle of common people against the oppressive power of the elites.

What do you mean by this? My posting history? Am I a COINTEL agent for the secret Obama Communist Army?

Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your chains.

I don't understand why you avowed leftists continue to press on with this forum with this egalitarian trype, global warming, etc....aren't there more fruitful grounds to sow the seeds of discontent?

Way to stereotype. I'm an independent thinker. I believe that the free-market should left alone and that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. Just because you think those two things don't go together doesn't mean I'm a socialist.

What's wrong with uniting with people we agree with to work on those issues in which we agree? Dr. Paul works with Grayson and Kucinich. This is the shit that pisses me off. When will you guys get it through your heads that it might not be a good idea to write off all potential allies in this movement.

Not a strawman, nothing wrong with allying with other people without power. If you really believed in the message of liberty then you wouldn't care if Bernie Sanders is a socialist or an austrian economist. Truth will win out in the end, but it doesn't happen overnight..
