The number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during the recession, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal salary data.

Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession's first 18 months — and that's before overtime pay and bonuses are counted.

Federal workers are enjoying an extraordinary boom time — in pay and hiring — during a recession that has cost 7.3 million jobs in the private sector.

The growth in six-figure salaries has pushed the average federal worker's pay to $71,206, compared with $40,331 in the private sector.

As long as the government has the power to tax it will favor its own at the expense of its opposition.

" She says federal employees make 26% less than private workers for comparable jobs"

Government workers should make a maximum of $40,000, which is right around the average American wage. Think of all the money we'd save!

The government Propaganda spoke people are justifying all the exceptional salaries/benefits/retirement because Federal Employees require high education levels and degrees compared to the private sector.

One Rebuttal I gave for the Federal Employees: the Private Sector/Employees expect results and efficiencies, unlike the behemoth bloated Federal Government.

The guy that delivers my junk mail and pre screens my magazine subscriptions and peels back the cellophane window on the rest of my mail, I guess to look for a check makes over $18.00 an hour.
Oh he also kills the grass around my mailbox with round up whether it needs it or not.

its not just federal workers either. Civilian contractors salaries are exploding as well. Just talked to an old HS friend. He is making over 90k a year pushing paper.

Its a joke really. He told me about when he heard the job offer. Said all he needed was a security clearance. The offer was double what he was making. His old MC captain told him to hold out for another 20k. That gave him another 10k cause "he might have a better offer" somewhere else. Esshh..

90k to push paper for the military. Sounds like nepotism to me. I hate that shit.

Damn. I always thought Gov't employees were rude because they made shit. Guess not.

It depends. Are the Government employees you're talking to really Government employees? A large part of the Government grunt workforce is made up of temps that don't make much and get little/no benefits. Most of the people you talk to via Government phone numbers are temps/contractors that make next to nothing, but still live in very high cost of living areas. They're also undereducated, undertrained, and pretty much cranky people. Ah my ex co-workers ;p

As to the "Government employees should make no more than $40,000/yr." comment, that's idiotic. Why put a price ceiling on anyone, or a price floor for that matter? Try living in the DC Metro area on $40,000/yr. and sustaining a family. It's just not happening. Besides, a real Government job is more about the benefits than the straight up wage (whether those benefits are above or under the table).
