View Full Version : Debate Al Gore - A marketing concept to put pressure on him...

Okay, this just popped into my head, it's a very simple idea and I haven't fully thought it out or anything but, I think the timing is right to try and make this sort of thing as Viral as possible.

Here's a clip of John Stossel Challenging Gore from last nights show. Go to 4:30 for the challenge.

YouTube - Stossel - December 10, 2009 - Pt 2 of 7 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLc-p_s2UKs&feature=related)

We could cut this part out and put it on it's own channel, and promote the heck out of it, and attach a domain which will be a site much like the moneybombs, based around promoting a debate between Al Gore and perhaps a list of qualified people like that CATO guy and Lord Monkton for Gore to choose from. We can really get a lot of eyes pointed in the right direction. We can set some very reasonable terms for the debate, and do everything we can make Gore feel obligated to go on. For example... we could take pledges for people that would be willing to pay money to a childrens charity or something if this took place. We can let him bring a friend of his own on, as well.

Anyways, this was just a quick brainstorm and I thought I'd throw this out for some criticism and see if you guys think it has any potential. I don't have time to put something together like this myself, but i do have a lot of web resources, and a little extra time and would contribute to the effort if others are into it.

I have a good name for a domain, but i haven't bought it yet so i don't want to say what it is.

Thoughts? Criticisms? Suggestions? :)

I think it is a great idea, as is Stossel's "green phone" :)

haha yea. The green phone is a great concept, and we should help him expand on it.

I would be willing to donate to a good private environmental charity, to see Al Gore debate and i think others would too. Having a whole campaign based on trying to guilt Al Gore into debating has potential, me thinks. :)

Quite solid idea. I've found that often the person with the idea will end up doing most of the work ;) But you know I'm here to help if you go for it - and I bet there is a huge base of RP supporters who would help promote it - not to mention the potential for it to have legs among the general public.

True true...

I'm just hoping someone will jump in and prove you wrong. :p

I am willing to work on this idea, so I guess what I'm really asking is... Do others think this is a worthy concept to work on?

I think it is a great idea. However, in all honesty, I believe that Al Gore would just ignore it, the media would keep hyping CC and those that believe in it would simply put there fingers in their ears and keep shouting "LA,LA, LA I'm not listening to reason."

Then again, while he may ignore it, it may get enought attention to wake people up when he does ignore it.

A lot of people still take notice of the "Where the Birth Certificate?" billboards.

Why not a "Set the date for the debate, Al Gore!" billboard or promo?

Yes, definitely a worthy goal, and an excellent idea.

Thanks for the input so far. :)

I will seriously consider putting some work on this concept to get it started. The more I think about it, the more it just feels like i should do it. :)

Growing a list of people willing to pay to see such a debate? (http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=twSm4q_CgwsQeE_p1z9oi2w) Winner take all? If it gets big enough, it may attract attention.

Look at all the fake pledges it has already. If we're going to do this, we need to do it right. Somethign like the above, will not work.

Not to derail, but do you remember that deal years ago where Al Gore was testifying of some shady dealings where he kept saying something like "There was no overriding legal ... something or other." over and over rather than just answering the questions? Do you remember what that was all about? I think people need to be reminded what a scum sucking parasite this guy is. He certainly looked like the definition of one during those hearings - whatever they were about.

Dennis Avery has been challenging Gore to debate since 2007:

Official Challenge (http://www.heartland.org/custom/semod_policybot/pdf/21572.pdf)

Gore still refuses.

Weather Channel founder John Coleman has also challenged Al Gore to debate:

YouTube - Global Warming - Al Gore sued by 30.000 Scientists (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6zpHtbM3hc)

Stossel is a great guy, but he's behind the curve here, and if Gore were to debate, there are others I'd rather have debating him than Stossel.

so the fake pledges' $ don't count towards the total. It's the internet. You can't censor everything.
