Its bad enough pointing guns at people, but firing? What did he think was going to happen next?

Yep. Only thing cops did wrong in this case was spending so many rounds. Adrenaline got them hopping, and then their fire was way uncontrolled. BAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAM the pistol is jumping and bucking all over the place, shots are going everywhere. It should have been BAM-BAM..BAM..BAM. Four rounds to do what took the two of them 20-25 together. Poor fire discipline caused by elevated heart rate and inadequate training, probably.
